Image question

[edit]

An image - File:HM Galley Alarm 1776.png - has recently been added to the article, labelled as being specifically this vessel. There is nothing in the image documentation to indicate where it came from, and it seems unlikely that anyone made a contemporaneous painting of this otherwise largely unremarkable galley.

I think it more likely that the image is wholly AI-generated, which would be a breach of the draft policy on computer-generated content. Of course this is a draft policy, and not presently binding. However if this is indeed AI-generated then I'm not sure we should be misrepresenting it as specifically this vessel. There is very little recorded history as to what this vessel looked like and an AI-generated image in 2024 is likely to be an approximation at best.

Bringing it here in the spirit of bold, revert, discuss to get other views on its inclusion or removal. -- Euryalus (talk) 12:50, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. Pretty picture, one of several that the user added to ship articles, but I couldn't find a source either. I never thought of an AI-generated image. If it is AI generated, at the very least that should be mentioned, though my preference would be a ban on AI images. Acad Ronin (talk) 18:11, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
