Wikiproject Mississippi

[edit]

Please use your common sense. Battleship Kilkis does not belong to Wikiproject Mississippi. Normally a ship is not related to a country, state or city just because she is named after it, unless there is some additional connection. However, if you really need this ship added, tagging article USS Mississippi (BB-23) is enough. Sv1xv (talk) 11:41, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This has been resolved (probably) at the Administrators' noticeboard. Constantine ? 11:45, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, it hasn't been resolved. I just got tired of repeating the obvious. If a project decides something is within its scope, then it can be tagged as such. The ship was named after the state of Mississippi, to honor the state. Just because it was sold to Greece, doesn't make it any less significant to the project. The tag should be on this article and eventually, I will add it back. Project tags aren't the same thing as article content. This article is within the scope of the project, period. - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 11:48, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to forget that when she was sold, she was renamed Kilkis, after the location of a battle of the Second Balkan War. What connection would it have to the State of Mississippi? Should it be added to a project about the Balkan Wars as well? Please use common sense. Sv1xv (talk) 12:04, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
...surely, then, it's appropriate to tag USS Mississippi (BB-23), rather than Greek battleship Kilkis? We have two articles so we can easily deal with the different aspects of the ship's career, and this seems quite a classic example of it. Shimgray | talk | 12:22, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. There is some connection while in US Navy service to the State of Mississippi: "The ship departed Cuban waters on 1 May (1909) for a cruise up the river with which she shared her name, the mighty Mississippi River. Calling at the major ports of this great inland waterway, she arrived at Natchez, Mississippi on 20 May, and then proceeded five days later to Horn Island where she received a silver service from the state of Mississippi." It is acceptable, although somewhat extreme, to tag USS Mississippi (BB-23). Sv1xv (talk) 13:39, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As can be seen in the images at the USS Mississippi BB-23 article, her figurehead, 100 years later, is still on display on the grounds of the Mississippi State Capital building. Regardless of her name, she is tied to Mississippi, both as USS Mississippi and as Kilkis. Just because she was sold to another country and changed names, doesn't wipe out her connection to Mississippi, and therefore her being in the WikiProject Mississippi scope under any name. It appears I am not the one that is not using common sense. - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 14:35, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Someone wanting to improve this article will find, on average, no more help on the WikiProject Mississippi talk page than on, say, the WikiProject Pokemon talk page. Including the WikiProject Mississippi tag is a net negative. --NE2 15:42, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

==WikiProject Mississippi== This article is within the scope of WikiProject Mississippi because the Greek battleship Kilkis used to be the USS Mississippi, which was named after the state of Mississippi. - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 08:34, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
