Page needs to be moved to Gothic: Remake

[edit]

The official website titles the game as Gothic with subtitle Remake, so the page should be moved to Gothic: Remake. I didn't perform the move myself because there was previous disagreement. Paradoctor (talk) 20:31, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Paradoctor There is no colon in the official title of the remake, which is: "Gothic Remake". LennBr (talk) 08:59, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:SUBTITLE. Please note that the official site has the HTML title "Gothic: Remake - Official Game Site". Paradoctor (talk) 16:04, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
while the WP:Subtitle is definately an argument, the html seems not to feature the official title, which is, what I thought would be "Gothic Remake" ... but now I am not sure anymore, because the publisher released multiple trailers of the video game, containing "Gothic 1 Remake" in the title. On the other hand the "1" in those trailers is missing, despite being named differently. See for example this trailer. And while the official game store of thqnordic describes the game as Gothic 1 Remake, the game itself is described as Gothic Remake on the hardcover; see: https://eu.store.thqnordic.com/Gothic-1-Remake/9120080078582M. From what I saw so far, most news/media outlets reported about it as "Gothic Remake". LennBr (talk) 17:23, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Gothic Remake" or "Gothic remake"? Some links would be helpful here. Paradoctor (talk) 17:42, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Gothic Remake". as you can see, those are mostly media outlets in my non english speaking country, where the original game came from. LennBr (talk) 19:45, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh me, oh my. WP:COMMONNAME: the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable, English-language sources) (my emphasis). The German "Gothic Remake" is the equivalent of the English "Gothic remake", and is normative only there. Paradoctor (talk) 21:37, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here are some english-language sources aswell:
[1] [2] [3] all the write about it as "Gothic Remake"
This one (Eurogamer) uses "Gothic 1 Remake".
I got to say, its pretty hard to find recent english news articles about the game. WP:COMMONNAME would be "Gothic Remake" (Gothic remake in this matter). Or we just wait another few months, although I dont expect the game to get much attention in GB/USA/AUS/CAN even when the release is nearby. LennBr (talk) 00:28, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The Pushsquare source only uses the term in the title-cased heading, so that one has to be disregarded.
As a counterpoint, both Gamerant and PCGamesN use "Gothic remake".
My impression from using two different search engines is that there is no significant majority using "Gothic Remake" over "Gothic remake", with "Gothic 1 Remake" bringing up the rear.
Given that the official name clearly is "Gothic: Remake", I'd consider that the most sensible place in the face of the unclear situation in the sources. Paradoctor (talk) 03:52, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, waiting for another few months wouldnt bring any harm. Just to clerify; there is no colon in the official title, but as you pointed out with WP:SUBTITLE, we would have to make one in it, if we disregard WP:Commonname. LennBr (talk) 08:05, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
