Undiscussed page move

[edit]

I have reverted an undiscussed page move to the title August 2021 Arbinda massacre, which the page mover suggested there were other Arbinda massacres in 2021. As far as I can tell, Wikipedia has just one article about a massacre and another about an Arbinda attack in 2019, so there isn't any confusion as far as I can see. Another article must be written about one of these other massacres before there is a need to disambiguate based on the month and year. Currently this article has no year, suggesting that the massacre is unique, at least as far as Wikipedia articles are concerned, and has a concise title as a result. I am happy to discuss if the title warrants having a year included. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 01:24, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Jebiguess: I notice you have moved this article from the title Arbinda massacre to a new title, Gorgadji massacre, again without discussing the move, first. The above message is a hint this move is controversial. Why did you change the name? - Cameron Dewe (talk) 00:48, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Two reasons: the massacre didn't take place in Arbinda, it took place in a forest close to Gorgadji (see DW and VOA sources). The Arbinda attack and Arbinda massacre are similar events as well; jihadists attack military-defended area and massacre civilians. It makes no sense to distinguish the two when both attack and massacre fit well, and as such a year (2019 Arbinda attack, 2021 Arbinda massacre) would work best to definitively distinguish the two. Gorgadji massacre is the best new name for this article due to location proximity for the attack and to distinguish it from the 2019 attack or 2023 kidnappings. Thanks for the explanation. I am not familiar with the provinces of Burkina Faso or their departments, but now you have pointed this out it is clear that these events happened in different places. It seems that previous editors were also not familiar with this geography. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 18:40, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
