Etymology
[edit]Ok, I was asked to chip in - Gaelic dail is from Norse dalr and in Gaelic can mean a variety of things. Dwelly sums it up as "Field, dale, meadow, plain". It's generally speaking not as harsh a place as a gleann which can be very steep and/or rocky. But beyond that it's a very amorphous term. If, however, Mac an Tàilleir has identified that in this instance it is "plain" rather than the more generic "flat valley", then we should go with that as the Scottish Place Name Soc usually knows what it's doing.
