Geylang is more than a Red Light district! one mention is enough!
[edit]This article was my first contribution to wikipedia (before registration). I first contributed here because the only description about Geylang was about the red light district, and I felt so frustrated with such a pale description! I was glad to remind the origin of the neighborhood and its very specific and particular atmosphere!! It is true that (unfortunately) many Singaporean keep believing Geylang has nothing more to offer!
However descriptions of the "brothel" area keep coming back! One mention is clear enough, I believe!
As I write those comments you can read : "Geylang is the only place in Singapore where there are licensed brothels". First of all, the prostitutes are only in a specific area of Geylang. The strange thing about it is that even though you would notice crowds and "numbered" houses in the "lorongs", there is actually no aggressive view of what those streets are! When my mother came to the excellent nearby restaurant, she did not realize what all those people were doing outside of their houses! Unlike Orchard Road, which can turn into an extremely sleazy area after dark: I have been approached several times in Orchard road at the level of another famous "spot", Orchard Towers. How come there is no mention of it in the Orchard Road page?
Second of all it looks to me that the information is not even correct, there are other "official" red-light disctricts: "Keong Saik Road" is a famous spot (located near the police headquarters), and Desker road in Little India has quite a reputation!
I removed the sentence, and added "legal red light district" to the first mention of it. 83.177.250.81 20:24, 9 February 2006 (UTC). 83.177.250.81 20:24, 9 February 2006 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by tlanson (talk • contribs)

Good article but I got some questions
[edit]Are brothels legal only within Geylang red-light district? What are the boundaries of the Geylang red-light district? Is any part of Joo Chiat Road within Geylang red-light district? Maybe these answers could be added to the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.22.189.80 (talk) 15:49, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
- You are welcome to research and add these details in if relevant. :) – robertsky (talk) 11:25, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
