Middlebury College Painter Cane, c1930
[edit]The cane of my late mother, Lucy G. Hager, then of Vergennes, VT, daughter of the Congregational Minister, Class of 1930, MC, measures exactly one yard in length. It was found and given to me, her one son, 1946-, by Wesley Eldred of South Burlington, VT, formerly Head Library Assistant at UVM Library. The cloth cord was rotten and removed, as was the Sterling Silver Handle and the Class of 1930 band, for polishing, and later re-gluing and band attaching by small nail. The wood appears to be a dark brown hardwood, tapered down to the shielded tip...
