General Comment on Media Articles
[edit]Untitled
[edit]I suggest including a "Where to Watch" section for any media content in Wikipedia. It seems obvious that this would be of interest to many, yet it is difficult to find this information on the Internet. Media is often available in places other that where it first premiered, yet this is typically all one can find in these articles. If this information is contained in a clearly labeled area of the article rather than buried in the general description somewhere, it will be much easier to find and keep updated as availability changes. As an example, "this" article on the amazing documentary film "Free Solo" can be found on Hulu. I'm sure there are other media streaming services that could be included in such a section of one where including in the article. Dchody (talk) 18:10, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
Proposed Changes
[edit]I plan on making the following changes to this Wikipedia article: As there is currently no Plot section, I will create that. This follows the template and guidelines from Wikipedia on films and documentaries. Furthermore, I plan on creating the Release section, which aligns with Wikipedia's guidelines and will improve the lead as the lead includes information regarding release which is not later mentioned. I also plan on adding information to the Production section and rewriting a sentence which seems to be closely paraphrased. I hope to improve this section and further align it with Wikipedia’s guidelines for films and documentaries. Lastly, I will add information from scholarly sources to the Reception section and present reactions from positive and negative viewpoints. This will improve the neutrality of the article as there are currently only positive reviews in the Reception section. I have created an annotated bibliography with my sources and ideas: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/User:LRegan/Free_Solo/Bibliography. LRegan (talk) 13:35, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
So-called 'Scholarly analysis'
[edit]These are just opinions of two people. One (Benson-Allott) is clearly a leftist feminist using this opportunity to bang on about her agenda (this has NOTHING to do with the actual documentary). The first paragraph of this article states that 'Alex also receives an MRI in order to understand his brain’s response to fear.' but (deliberately) omits the FACT that findings of the MRI were that this person does not react to fear like 99.99% of humans and that's something that SHOULD be included. And that invalidates the statement made by the second 'scholar' (Taylor).
These opinions are not encyclopedia-worthy as they are not peer-reviewed or peer-supported. The purpose of any encyclopedia article is to provide FACTS, not OPINIONS. I have deleted this section accordingly.
- Film criticism consists of opinions expressed by journalists and scholars, and such criticism is commonplace and widely accepted in Wikipedia articles about films. Cullen328 (talk) 18:47, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
