renamed
[edit]See page 6 [1]. There is a reference to an earlier resolution renaming China township to Franklin Grove township effective April 2003. GNIS confirms that the primary name is "Franklin Grove" and "China" is a variant name.
- I did find the reference in the PDF, but it was on page 13. Although that statement seems clear, the Lee County website at http://www.countyoflee.org/ has a map which still shows the township as "China", not "Franklin Grove", though there is a town in the township called "Franklin Grove". This seems to call for more research, and I'm checking to see what else I can find out. Omnedon (talk) 20:11, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- The site does mention "Franklin Grove Township" in some documents (like this one), so it looks like the map was just never updated. GNIS also shows Franklin Grove as the primary name with China Grove as a "variant name", as was stated above. The Census Factfinder still uses "China Township", but that's from 2000 and the change seems to have happened in 2003. Omnedon (talk) 20:14, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- The 2010 census lists this township as Franklin Grove Township. It used to be China Township, not China Grove Township. That sounds too much like Doobie Brothers to me. Backspace (talk) 18:29, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
