IMDb as only source

[edit]

Notability

[edit]
This article was created in 2010 and has only IMDb in the "External links", that is an inappropriate source per many instances of consensus at WP:RSN, Wikipedia:External links/Perennial websites#IMDb, and other places.
There are a host of policies and guidelines that cover [articles that are lacking sources. The criteria of verifiability (a policy) of a subject, especially a BLP, mandates it does not warrant a stand alone article when it does not pass a minimum criteria for inclusion. The state of an article does not determine notability but when this is contested then the burden of proof is on any editor wishing inclusion.
Many comments have been that there are aspects of IMDb that "can be allowable" but I have not entered any of these discussions. The main rationale for not using IMDb as a source is the reliability and it contains user generated material. A somewhat more strict editorial control has been asserted but at the very "best" anyone can purchase IMDb-Pro and "claim a page". IMDb has an estimated 83 million registered users and advertising is a central point of their existence. The first link above states: "The site and mobile apps are supported by revenues from our advertisers" so it is big business to have as many page hits as possible to increase revenue. Wikipedia is likely one of the biggest supporters of IMDb with so many articles having the site in the "External links" section. At a point there was pretty much unrestrained adding of IMDb to most things related to entertainment. The addition of a site as a reference is subjected to reliable sourcing criteria. Even if a site is acceptable for using as an "External link" it does not mean it should be added to every article but added when it provides information that gives allowances for inclusion. I like the site so would not want to see it black-listed or deprecated, however, I will resist the use in clear violation of policies and guidelines especially on a BLP.
Content: "She has been a working actor for most her life, so her recent shift to directing makes perfect sense." sounds too much like original research.
