Self-published media, whether books, newsletters, personal websites, open wikis, blogs, Internet forum postings, etc., are not acceptable.

Self-published sources (online and paper) Policy shortcut: WP:SPS

Anyone can create a website or pay to have a book published, then claim to be an expert in a certain field. For that reason self-published media, whether books, newsletters, personal websites, open wikis, blogs, Internet forum postings, etc., are largely not acceptable. Self-published material may, in some circumstances, be acceptable when produced by an established expert on the topic of the article whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable third-party publications. However, caution should be exercised when using such sources: if the information in question is really worth reporting, someone else is likely to have done so. Self-published sources should never be used as third-party sources about living persons, even if the author is a well-known professional researcher or writer; see WP:BLP#Reliable sources. - Evenmoremotor (talk) 01:24, 23 March 2009 (UTC)Evenmoremotor[reply]

Instead of communicating by copy and pasting misquoted policy guidelines you may try to actually debate something person to person. The link is to an image that is reliable. Please stop deleting legitimate links. - Mafia Expert (talk) 01:34, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've warned him about that. Just for clarity's sake, in regards to this link, I'm concerned for a few reasons. We couldn't post the image on Wikipedia because it would be a copyright violation. Instead, we seem to be linking to an image that is a copyright violation, which probably isn't a good idea, for people to see that they were murdered. At the same time, it is being cited for quite a bit (1. they were murdered 2. as revenge, 3. it was a common tactic by the Mafia and 4 it was for him cooperating), of which only point 1 at best can be cited by the picture. The rest is either based on the tripod site, which is not a reliable source by policy, or taking a lot more out of the picture than is there. The text that is unsourced should also be removed per WP:BLP but I'll leave that for later. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 07:32, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Remove unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material

[edit]

Remove unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material Policy shortcut: WP:GRAPEVINE

Remove any contentious material about living persons that is unsourced; that is a conjectural interpretation of a source (see Wikipedia:No original research); or that relies upon self-published sources (unless written by the subject of the BLP; see below) or sources that otherwise fail to meet standards specified in Wikipedia:Verifiability.

The three-revert rule does not apply to such removals. Editors who find themselves in edit wars over potentially defamatory information about living persons should bring the matter to the Biographies of Living Persons noticeboard for resolution by an administrator.

Administrators may enforce the removal of such material with page protection and blocks, even if they have been editing the article themselves. Editors who re-insert the material may be warned and blocked. See the blocking policy and Wikipedia:Libel.

Administrators encountering BLPs that are unsourced and negative in tone, where there is no neutral version to revert to, should delete the article without discussion (see Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion criterion G10 for more details).
