It is very common and popular in Turkey to call the football players by their first names, although this habit is gradually changing. F.E. When two players with the same name existed -especially in the same team- we used to call the older one with the first name preceded by the word "büyük (older)" and the younger one "küçük (younger)". Nowadays we call each one of those same-name players with their respective surname: "Emre Așık passes the ball to Emre Belözoğlu" or "Mehmet Topal passes the ball to Mehmet Balta" etc. What we don't do, except for foreigners playing in Turkish teams, is to call a player with his/her family name --E4024 (talk) 23:04, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why not add a photo of Lefter, our legendary player, who passed away recently. I will also tell fellow Turkish WP users to add a National Team photo. --E4024 (talk) 11:10, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
