There was a mention of fluoride varnish on BBC Radio4 today 19th Oct 2011.
It should be noted that fluoride is poisonous but my advice would be if you are using fluoride toothpaste anyway, why not? But the real solution is to get off the sugar addiction. Then you can use something else to clean the teeth, like salt and bicarb. Jago25 98 (talk) 11:51, 19 October 2011 (UTC)jago25_98
Using salt to brush your teeth @Jago25? I would strongly advise anyone who believes fluoride is toxic and doesn't want to brush their teeth with it, at least don't be stupid enough to add salt to whatever you are brushing your teeth with - it is a fantastic way to introduce abrasion lesions to your teeth - and once you wear through that enamel, it won't grow back. On another topic, I was under the impression that ingested fluoride varnish has a lower uptake from the gastrointestinal tract than fluoride gel (sorry CBF'd finding a reference, just an FYI if anyone want to search for it). Also fluoride varnish is a lot more expensive than fluoride gel, so just for a general fluoride treatment in adults, fluoride gel is a much cheaper option. Fluoride varnish is preferred for more severe demineralisation of the tooth however as per the reasons discussed in the article 122.150.178.86 (talk) 10:20, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Added information to the clinical recommendations/guidance section. References are UK guidelines, but could not work out how to reference guidance. Used report citation template instead. If anyone knows of a better way to cite these, please feel free to let me know or edit yourself. Thanks Awvh (talk) 21:06, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
Fluoride treament
[edit]I was looking for an article on the procedure in which dentists or dental assistants applied fluoride to the teeth by repeatedly 'painting' the teeth (Fluoride treatment is simply a link to an article about fluoride pills). This was done in the U.S. in the early fifties. Children went to the dentist for several treatments, which were painful (maybe because the mouth had to be held open for a long time? I don't know, but I remember the experience as the most uncomfortable of all my dentist visits as a pre-teen). Can anyone provide information for an article on this topic? 213.109.220.93 (talk) 07:10, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
