A fact from Flag of Weihaiwei appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 10 May 2017 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that the flag of Weihaiwei(pictured) was redesigned to include Mandarin ducks, as it was felt inappropriate to have a Chinese imperial dragon on a British flag?
the article states that the flag was "defaced" by adding the two ducks. "Defaced" is defined as "spoil the surface or appearance of (something), e.g., by drawing or writing on it; mar or disfigure." and I do not think that this was what was planned or what happened, so I am changing the word to "embellished", but I am sure that there are perhaps other, better words to use, but this is, I feel, moving in the right direction. @The Royal C: One of the wonders of editing wikipedia is the almost unlimited potential for learning. Thanks, I reverted my edit and made "defaced" a link to Defacement (flag) because I still felt a little uneasy about it. Now I feel just fine. Carptrash (talk) 18:19, 10 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
