More about film rights
[edit]I think it should be stated whether purchased film rights are exclusive. I mean, can they not be sold to more than one company at the same time? I would think the copyright holder could choose what rights they are allowed, and how they are allowed them, rather than simply being forced to give them exclusive movie rights. Does selling the movie rights in any way limit what the copyright holder may do? Also, I think it should be stated here how movie rights work with public domain novels, whether or not that seems obvious. —Shoreu (talk) 02:31, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Still don't really understand
[edit]I understand that making a movie of a book entitles the writer to some of the proceedings. But how does it work if someone makes a movie about a real life event. Let's say a hero saves hundreds of people, and Will Smith wants to make a movie about that. Who did he buy the rights from? A journalist? The hero? And if it's the hero, why not the hundreds of other people who also will be shown? Or the hero's parents that make a 3 second appearance? Joepnl (talk) 18:33, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
