Notability
[edit]Like others in the planter elite, they enslaved people (over 80 people in total) and forced their labor.
- As the statement confirms, this was nothing notable. It sounds like a rubber-stamp mention by a diversity editor. Valetude (talk) 10:39, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
- FYI, he meets wikipedia's notability criteria at the very least by his service in the House of Burgesses, and the article may also help people understand George Washington. I'm not in a genealogy library right now, but cleaned up this article a few days ago. I write to suggest that people adding citations with numbers of slaves also add refs to back up those numbers. The first fairly reliable and readily researchable federal census was in 1810, and the first Virginia tax census accessible in many such specialized libraries was in 1787. For planters like this man who died before either of those dates, sometimes tax records are available, else estate inventories or sometimes slaves are listed in a will.Jweaver28 (talk) 16:20, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
