Changed date back to 1966. Please stop changing this to 1964. It isn't correct. Even Fender have amended their webpage to reflect the correct information.

Dating a Mustang...and now we see why Wiki is sometimes useless. 1966 for the mustang bass, '64 for the guitar. Have any of you consulted source documents? Fender's webpage is wrong. It is not in the 64 Fender catalogue, the JW Black book says 1966. The "Blue Book of Electric Guitars" (Fjestad) says 1966. "American Basses" by Jim Roberts says 1966. (You can even see this one on google books if you like. Page 56.)
Here's an original Mustang bass manual from 1966: http://www.fender.com/support/manuals/pdfs/instr_owners/Mustang_Bass_1966.pdf
Can anyone produce any documentation to support 1964 other than Fender's typo on their webpage?
This article currently says the Mustang Bass was introduced in 1966.However, Fender say 1964. Andrewa 07:00, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

- Fixed. Still a couple of dates to add, eg I'd guess that the Bronco and Musicmaster basses had already been withdrawn by 1981, but it would be good to know and say. When Squier comes along it gets complicated. I don't think we need an article for every Fender model, let alone every Squier. Andrewa 09:53, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Does anyone know more about Musicmaster basses or have a reliable source for info? I have never seen a Fender Musicmaster Bass made after the 1978 model year (S8 XXXXX). Sometime after that the Squire Bronco Bass appears ( a shadow of the gormer in my op). The Musicnmaster Basses I have seen had a SIX POLE guitar pick-up (pup) under that litle plastic cover. Was this standard practice with Fender? I'm guessing it may have been done because Fender did not have true single-coil bass pup after it went to the split coil on the P bass in 1957 (1958?), and the more expensive split coil pup went into P's and Mustangs, but not Musicmasters.
- Welcome to Wikipedia, User:Jnewman98121. Please sign your posts on talk pages, and that's not a criticism, how would you know?
- Very good questions and observations! While we have to walk a fine line not to stray into original research, hopefully we'll be able to answer these questions, and add this information to the article, in time. Andrewa 00:33, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I have seen a Fender Musicmaster Bass made after the 1978 - my personal instrument (S9 XXXXX). 1979. Simple, but very good for boogie music. Better than (too long) Precision! Alex
