Magnetism
[edit]There are lots of Google results for less-than-official pages indicating a belief that this island is the third most magnetic location on Earth, but I have been unable to locate any scientific evidence to support such a claim. Can anyone find anything to support or refute it? Thanks! --Bossi (talk • gallery • contrib) 03:18, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Additionally, what information I can locate does not seem to indicate anything special about the area, albeit the images are relatively low resolution. It appears that plenty of other places far exceed El Vedrà's claim. [1] [2] --Bossi (talk • gallery • contrib) 03:24, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Article
[edit]The correct name of this Balearic island is es Vedrà, with the accent on the a, as it's said in the article. It should be renamed. I'm Enric, from the Catalan Viquipèdia. –195.53.5.10 (talk) 08:11, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Sections removed
[edit]An editor removed the text quoted below from the article with the edit summary "rv nonsense", I don't think it deserves that label. I think we can put it here on the talk page for now:
Background
Es Vedrá is a striking rocky island, standing 378m and made of limestone, our old geological chum. It's surrounded by all kinds of myths, believed to be the island of the sirens in Homer's epic, holy island of Tanit (Carthaginian goddess of sauciness), and third most magnetic spot on the earth (after the North Pole and Mike's Discount Magnet Warehouse). Father Palau i Quer hung out with the Virgin Mary on Es Vedra in the nineteenth century, Mike Oldfield put it on the cover of Tubular Bells II after overlooking it from his studio (a view that Noel Gallagher now frowns over), and it stood in for Bali Hai in South Pacific. There's also UFO sightings ahoy, compasses don't work in the area, and a French chap burnt himself to death from a nearby spot a couple of months ago.<ref>http://simon.blogs.com/photos/ibiza/ibiza5.html</ref>
