Investigated by FBI
[edit]Are these records saying the FBI didn't know where Sevareid was in 1940 & 1941? He was in London with Edward R. Murrow duing the Blitz & in France during the German invasion. I suspect this means he was NOT at UMinn. He was a student there in the 1930s. DEddy (talk) 02:04, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
- The FBI isn't very bright. "Communists ! Quick ! Look under the bed ! They're gonna rape our white women !" ... you know. Like Jedgar, flouncing around the office in panties and a bra, they are all kinda weird. 116.231.75.122 (talk) 10:39, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- I removed a long section on that subject sourced entirely to the FBI files, which falls squarely under WP:PRIMARY. I could find no coverage of the FBI files in reliable sources. If there are any, it may be worth a few sentences but certainly not an entire section that is larger than any other. Figureofnine (talk • contribs) 15:44, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

Movie "The Best Man"
[edit]The article claims Sevareid is in the movie "The Best Man." I presume this refers to the 1964 movie, written by Gore Vidal, about a political convention. Howard K. Smith is in that movie, but as far as I know, Eric Sevareid is not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.143.202.206 (talk) 19:39, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
Saturday Night Live retirement speech
[edit]The TV program Saturday Night Live, Season 3, Episode 7 (at about 34 minutes in), featured Bill Murray delivering a parody of a retirement speech playing the character of Eric Sevareid, who had just been forced to retire from CBS News upon reaching the age of 65. Quotes from this speech would make an interesting addition to this article, as some are quite funny and others quite respectful. David Spector (talk) 20:42, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
Interesting and thank you ! I will look this up indeed! As I thought no think the 65 rule very interesting indeed. And why they don’t bring it back to give youth more opportunities,? But we all live longer and everyone has a camera and a microphone…Andy Warhol really was correct. And Eric was a man of a special generation between radio and television. Ethical news and todays shock journalism that makes everything propaganda. His story is why I studied more about the changes of journalism and the language of war correspondent vs news correspondent in general. TikTok and Facebook make everyone an eyewitness . Too much information like the sirens Eric hated upon returning to NYC after being in the fall of France and Bombing of London! PTSD from too much social media must be the study today . And Berney “Propaganda “ a book to discuss Next to “Not So Wild A Dream” Makinworks (talk) 04:20, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

When I hit the pencil icon I got only a short form html looking document . I am on iOS device not a web browser desktop. Is that why?
Sorry to ask as it has been years since I published corrections and additional information for subjects.
Regarding Eric Sevareid I have been studying extensive research over the past few months. Reading “Not So Wild A Dream” which really was his best work! The “Canoeing with the Cree” was a good work but to Eric himself he claimed it to be amateur and college age mistakes in prose. And lack of intimacy that a war correspondent learned from the truth about world war 2 years with death and censorship. Also the amount of corrections to that story added into “Not So Wild A Dream” retells the story in more detail. Also the biography written about him goes into much more details about the press coverage during the canoe trip that Eric just left out as he remained an insider and left out the biography details . I found the tidbits to make a huge difference of perspective especially about his personal life that he obviously left out and that science and medical advances revealed that changed his view of his first wife from being a alcoholic or mental chronic disorder to a Bi-Polar which medicine even then if she had been properly diagnosed would have saved her much pain and possibly the marriage. Eric felt guilty for divorcing her and after her death the details about the abandonment shone into his other marriages .
Gossip aside it shines light upon the trauma he took on during the war years they simply ignored. Pull up yourself by the bootstraps and masculine was indeed the same as John Wayne and Humphrey Bogart. I use these as references as Eric was photographed smoking a cigarette or holding one all the time. And all died from smoking related issues/ Makinworks (talk) 04:14, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
