Moved. See strong support below to rename this article, but to what? Good support for the "franchise" qualifier; however, there is also significant opposition. So perhaps the best name would be Emu's TV programmes. As is usual with this type of outcome, if editors would rather support a better name, then another move request can be opened at any time to try to garner consensus for that name. Kudos to editors for your input, and Happy Publishing! (nac by page mover) Paine Ellsworth, ed.  put'r there  14:29, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Emu's TV SeriesEmu (franchise) – No idea what to move this to – I just know that the current title is incorrect. As the article seems to cover multiple television series, perhaps it should be moved to Emu (franchise)? Or if it's decided that the article is really about the puppet "character", perhaps Emu (character)?... --IJBall (contribstalk) 17:51, 8 December 2018 (UTC) --Relisting. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 22:56, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @IJBall: List of Emu (puppet) appearances, perhaps? 2A02:C7D:3C1A:7300:C9CF:BB45:3834:108E (talk) 19:01, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Emu (franchise) per WP:NCTV#Media franchise - as this is a series of TV series/programs, "franchise" is the best qualifier. --Gonnym (talk) 00:23, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strongly oppose Emu (franchise), as that really doesn't cover it properly at all in my opinion, and additionally sounds like a very American way of describing a very British series of shows. For what it's worth, the act has always generally been referred to simply as "Rod Hull and Emu" - perhaps that's a better name? Or maybe a merge with Emu (puppet) is in order? Either way, "franchise" sounds all sorts of wrong. 81.99.137.112 (talk) 00:26, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • A few comments: This specific article is not about the puppet called Emu, but about a series of different TV series starring that character. The phrase "Rod Hull and Emu" only appears once in the article in the sentence Emu's Broadcasting Company (1975–1980) was a children's television series featuring Rod Hull and Emu running their own television station, which parodied many BBC series of the time. If it's true that this is how the whole "franchise" is known, there is no mention of that at all in the article. For what its worth, I don't think "franchise" is American as it wouldn't have lasted in WP:NCTV#Media franchise if it were. --Gonnym (talk) 11:25, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • Thanks very much for your input, but it would still be a Strongly oppose from me, for what it's worth. To address your comments directly, "This specific article is not about the puppet called Emu, but about a series of different TV series..." - I fully understand that, and that's why I'm suggesting a merge may be the best option. Why should they be separate articles? The programmes that the puppet appeared in wouldn't in any way be out of place in an article about the puppet itself. (And it's not even close to being an exhaustive list, by the way, but that's another story.) This could be the most elegant solution of all, and in my opinion warrants serious consideration. "The phrase "Rod Hull and Emu" only appears once in the article . . . If it's true that this is how the whole "franchise" is known, there is no mention of that at all in the article" - Again, the standard of the article is another story, but I don't think I've ever heard the act introduced as anything else whenever they made television appearances, with the exception of the shortened "Rod and Emu". Are you aware of them being introduced as something else? Searching the BBC listings archive for "Rod Hull and Emu" gives us 105 results from 1972 to 1998 (https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/search/0/20?adv=0&q=%22rod+hull+and+emu%22). I think that's pretty conclusive that that's how the act was known, at the very least colloquially. "I don't think "franchise" is American as it wouldn't have lasted in..." - It's not intrinsically American, of course, but it would be very unusual for a British publication to use it in relation to Rod Hull's puppet. You can either take my word for it or not, but "franchise" really doesn't cover the subject matter, and especially so here in the UK. (And let's not forget that Rod Hull was English.) I'll leave it up to those who know better than me, but I just felt the need to register that Emu (franchise) would really, really grate. 81.99.137.112 (talk) 18:54, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
        • I really don't mind a merge, I just didn't comment on that option as the article would still be on the franchise, with a very small section about the character, and not an article about a character with 8/10 of it about the franchise. --Gonnym (talk) 18:57, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Emu (franchise), as the best of the available options here – I've updated the actual proposal accordingly. --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:19, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Before anyone else votes, can anyone provide any source at all that refers to Emu - be it the puppet, the character, the act, or the TV shows - as a "franchise"? I've already provided 105 examples of the act being called "Rod Hull and Emu" and it shouldn't take anybody long to find many, many more; far from being "the best of the available options here", we'd be going out on a limb if we were to refer to Emu as a "franchise". A single example won't change my mind, but there's no case for "Emu (franchise)" at all if nobody can find even one. 81.99.137.112 (talk) 20:29, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • You've actually have not provided 105 examples of the act being called "Rod Hull and Emu", but of that phrase appearing 105 times. I've looked at the first page and almost all of the results where "[...] starring Rod Hull and Emu", which of course makes sense as those are the stars, but that isn't the name of this "act" - also, this is not an "act", but a series of television shows, each with its own name - "Emu's Broadcasting Company", "The Rod & Emu Show", "Emu's World", "Emu's All Live Pink Windmill Show", etc. While it would be nice if "franchise" appeared in those sources, it does not need to be, as it isn't part of the article name, its part of the disambiguation which is a descriptive term which helps identify the article and which is supported by WP:NCTV.--Gonnym (talk) 23:29, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
