British Troops in Egypt
[edit]Was "Egypt Command" the same as "British Troops in Egypt"? The terms appear to be used interchangable, notably in the biographies of the commanders of Egypt Command, see for example Henry Maitland Wilson, 1st Baron Wilson, etc. Hamish59 (talk) 11:19, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
- I believe it is the same thing. Dormskirk (talk) 20:01, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
- It sounds like the same thing, so I am going to add British Troops in Egypt as a redirect. Hamish59 (talk) 21:32, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
- Good idea. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 21:43, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

Extended Gulabin listing of commanders
[edit]General Sir Frederick Stephenson: May 1883-January 1888
- Major-General the Hon. Sir James C. Dormer: January 1888-December 1890
- Major-General Sir Frederick W.E.F. Forestier-Walker: December 1890-October 1895
- Major-General Charles B. Knowles: October 1895-July 1897
- General Sir Francis W. Grenfell: July 1897-January 1899
Don't think any of these were 'GOC Egypt Command.' Buckshot06 (talk) 01:45, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
- Dormskirk in fossiking around mentions of British forces in Egypt in and before the Second World War, for over 25 years, I've never heard of 'Egypt Command.' It was always referred to as British Troops in Egypt, and some of the earliest commanders have the 'British troops in Egypt' variation. Can you point me at the sources which prompted you to set the article title as 'Egypt Command?' Buckshot06 (talk) 08:06, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- Buckshot06 - My recollection (and it was six years ago) is that I was trying to achieve consistency as regards article naming...perhaps in a mistaken attempt to comply with Wikipedia naming conventions. But I cannot find any contemporary references to "Egypt command" either. I would not have a problem if you are keen to move it. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 09:30, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
