Manga Final Chapter - Ed and Winry

[edit]

I want to bring this up since no one else has, in addition to wanting to generate discussion and possibly reach a consensus if necessary since a lot of edit warring has been occurring regarding the following information: the state of Ed and Winry's relationship at the end of the manga. Were they married? Are those there children? Is it original research to conclude such? Please discuss here before further editing on the topic. Fox816 (talk) 20:43, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, yes, no. It is transparently obvious what has happened - there are few visual images of marriage more explicit than wedding rings and kids (except for images of the wedding itself). It's no more OR to point out the obvious than it is to write 'Numerous pieces of merchandise have been released bearing Edward's likeness, including key chains and action figures'. Words are not the only way to convey information. --Gwern (contribs) 21:03 12 June 2010 (GMT)
I believe it is violating WP:OR to conclude that they're married. There was no marriage, there was no confirmation by the writer of the manga that they were married. Just a picture of the adult versions of the main character and another protagonist with chlidren. We can't simply assume it if the characters are next to each other they are married. Maybe if a source says something about it (and not just posting a link of the manga) we can say something along the lines of, "[Insert Reliable Source Here] speculates that Ed and Winry were married in the final chapter of the manga." Sincerely Subzerosmokerain (talk) 21:39, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Given that it is apparently not explicit that the two characters in question married *each other*, I'd go with something like 'at the end of the manga, Edward and Winry were shown next to each other, with wedding rings. Children were also in the picture'. --Andrensath (talk | contribs) 22:05, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that sounds like a good immediate solution. Sincerely Subzerosmokerain (talk) 00:31, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Playing devil's advocate here and following the same logic that bars the marriage inclusion, no reliable source states that the ring which Ed bears is a wedding ring. To make things clear, in the collage picture at the end of the final chapter, only Ed is shown to be wearing a ring on his ring finger, not Winry...unless I happened to miss it after going over the last several pages over and again. Revising Andrensath's to avoid speculation, we should just state that they were shown together holding children with Ed bearing a ring on his finger. My own personal interpretation is that they were married and had kids, however, I would think that is original research on my part since it hasn't been explicitly stated elsewhere in words...although such as with Gwern I believe that the picture is explicit enough. Therefore I suggest just describing what was shown in the manga, them together holding kids with Ed wearing a ring. Fox816 (talk) 02:07, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not explicit enough. Fall in the into Original Research. Note that when started to discuss whatever they married that already meant we were already making speculations & extrapolations. --KrebMarkt 06:47, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To me it's an obvious conclusion that they are married (as are Al and May) with children, but that I had to conclude/derive that shows that it's the sort of thing that requires a source. Heck, I started wondering which of the kids were Ed/Winry's or Al/May's. The best we can do is state what the "photo" shows without interpretation. Better still, summarize their final conversation, as showing a future relationship. —Quasirandom (talk) 14:08, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion (which is completely useless to wikipedia), both get married but I do not have a solid proof of such event. For example, Hohenheim and Trisha loved each other, had two kids, lived together but they never got married as stated by Edward when he meets Father. I even remember that Hohenheim was seen wearing a ring, but there was no confirmation. The best thing I think we could is wait for a confirmation in the anime or the last manga volume which normally has extras.Tintor2 (talk) 18:58, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't remember Hohenheim wearing a ring... --Gwern (contribs) 21:12 20 June 2010 (GMT)
I don't remember very well, but even state alchemist wore rings... just to hold their mini philospher's stones.Tintor2 (talk) 21:16, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
A few alchemists did, many didn't. And Winry and Ed's rings are just rings, not mounts for anything. One of these is not like the others, one of these does not belong... --Gwern (contribs) 18:25 22 June 2010 (GMT)
Yet they still didn't confirm what was Ed's ring.Tintor2 (talk) 20:27, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

On the subject on Hohenheim, that isn't correct either. Edward did not state that his parents were not married, only that they took on their mother's surname instead of their father's; that in itself does not conclude or infer anything. In some marriages, there are couples who prefer to maintain their own family surnames rather than take one or the other. This is speculation on my part, but Hohenheim likely wanted his children to have their mother's surname likely due to his own deprecating opinion of himself and his "inhuman" status. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.163.62.188 (talk) 06:24, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Update

[edit]

The latest manga guidebook Fullmetal Alchemist Chronicle confirms a marriage but not happening within the actual twenty-seven volumes, but happening in a timetable by Arakawa. Placing such information would be trivial as a marriage does not happpen in the series.Tintor2 (talk) 01:25, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hilarious. You finally got the RS you so demanded of everyone else, and rather than apologize for being a WP:DICK or admit that you were wrong or anything like that, you instead say, it's 'trivial as a marriage does not happen in the series'!
If that is your real reason, why did you not say it in the first place, that no source of any kind would be acceptable? You had to have known this the entire time because, as we all saw, a marriage 'does not happen in the series' and so no source would ever be acceptable by your claimed reason. --Gwern (contribs) 16:20 24 December 2011 (GMT)

You guys are being so stupid. You're making such a big flippin deal about whether to consider Winry as his wife. She not only becomes his wife but also the mother of his children. They end up married in the long run. Tintor2 just confirmed this. Who cares if it wasn't in the series. They still end up married at some point. So put her as his wife. If you don't you're just lying to the fans. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.30.20.181 (talk) 02:31, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just so you guys know, Edward is wearing a wedding ring. First of all it looks like one. Second of all it can't be a state alchemist ring because Ed is no longer a state alchemist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.189.53.191 (talk) 17:56, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
