Malta
[edit]Edward Allcard has never lived in Malta (I am personally acquainted with him and his wife, and know this for a fact). At the end of his sailing adventures he settled in Andorra where he lives to this day (he has just turned 102).
The Malta claim was correctly removed (a year ago) by Comapedrosa, but the edit was reverted immediately by Pigsonthewing.
I am going to remove this uncited claim. Please discuss here before reverting, and find a reliable source. SkipperGeek (talk) 21:32, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- The addition was made here, apparently with a citation, which is not in English, by User:Jkaharper. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:43, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- Ah, okay, I see the source of the confusion: two claims were added at the same time; that he lived in Malta and that he had just celebrated his 100th birthday in Andorra. The citation (in Catalan) is for the latter fact only and does not mention Malta. See Google Translate (translating the entire page doesn't work, so you will have to copy and paste the text). - I really can't be bothered arguing over this. It's a trivial detail anyway. So I've just removed it from the article, even if it is from a credible source. Cheers --Jkaharper (talk) 22:42, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
Marriages
[edit]According to his obituaries, Allcard had two marriages and a daughter from each. Why is only one mentioned here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abdul tom (talk • contribs) 22:44, 13 August 2017 (UTC)
- When I rewrote the bulk of the article, I found no references online which mentioned his first marriage (indeed he never mentions it in any of his writings; it was before his sailing adventures and he was still married when he begun his single-handed round-the-world trip) nor his first daughter, Dona, from that marriage. I was hesitant to add data from 'personal research' for which I had no citations. If you can find reliable sources (eg the obituaries you mention - unfortunately those in several major newspapers are paywalled so I have not been able to read them), please do add the information.
