On his Christian background

[edit]

Seems like his Christian background made some people wonder whether he'd have loyalty to the Ottoman government.

  • Findley, Carter Vaughn. Ottoman Civil Officialdom: A Social History. Princeton University Press, 14 July 2014. p. 266. "[...]one of the men of European origin, Edouard Blacque Bey, might be appointed ambassador in Berlin, the German ambassador in Istanbul argued that a Muslim would be preferable on the ground that a Christian would be more vulnerable to intrigue." - Though he said Rustem Pasha was reliable.
