[edit]

This article says Costa Rica ranks 2nd in Latin America in terms of GDP per capita. If you take look at http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_%28PPP%29_per_capita you'll notice that Argentina, Chile and Uruguay rank higher than Costa Rica, putting it in 4th place.

Inflation and Nationalized industries

[edit]

I've updated these sections as they were quite old. There are/were too many subjective statements in the article relating to public administration. Inflation has been reduced drastically in the last 2 years, which was not properly reflected, now it is (down from 13% to 4% last year, and a projected 6% for this year). Additionpoiuunnally, the article did not reference CAFTA which has changed much in terms of nationalized industries. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sudoupgrade (talkcontribs) 08:53, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Should we change this?

Most of the economic information and statistics in the first section is at least 5 years old.

Additionally, this sentence has a word I've never run across and can't find my Merriam-Webster dictionary: On a consolidated basis, including Central Bank losses and parastatal enterprise profits, the public sector deficit was 2.3% of GDP. Does anyone know if that is indeed a word, or is it supposed to be something else? I'm not proficient in econospeak enough to know if its just an esoteric word, or a typo. Hopefully someone can address this. Shigernafy 21:19, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article mentions almost daily power outages and virtual non-existence of police. There is no evidence offered for these claims. I have spent several weeks in various parts of country and never once experienced power outages, and there seems to be a normal police presence ---Matt A

I have lived in Costa Rica my whole life and I can tell you this information perhaps could've been true in the XX century, but this is no longer the case, there is 98% coverage of electricity and police are constantly engaging in ati-drug operations, with a great succes rate by the way. - 201.195.159.166 (talk) 16:56, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ridiculously one-sided article

[edit]

This article is written like a position paper. The whole thing should be deleted and rewritten. 68.8.108.62 09:57, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Information

[edit]

There is a lot of wrong and missing information in this article; for example, the section "Nationalized Industry" talks about government monopoly, but it doesn't mention the Aresep (Autoridad Regularadora de Servicios) which is in charge of setting the price for the service of these government institutions, preventing overpriced services and promoting competitiveness, a system unique of Costa Rica. Besides, the government monopoly will end soon now that the free trade agreement was aproved. - 201.195.159.166 (talk) 16:56, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Economy box

[edit]

I put an economy box, so we can delete the Statistics section.--SonCR (talk) 06:19, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Costa Rica second passport

[edit]

2002 Russian crime series Brigada shows Olga holding a Costa Rican second passport likely obtained under Costa Rica government's Resident Investor program. [1]

This section was removed as this does not have ANY relatioship with the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 111.68.59.75 (talk) 15:45, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello everyone, I am working for the International Trade Centre (ITC), a UN/WTO agency that aims to promote sustainable economic development through trade promotion. I would like to propose the addition of an external link (http://www.macmap.org/QuickSearch/FindTariff/FindTariff.aspx?subsite=open_access&country=188&source=1%7CITC) that leads directly to our online database of customs tariffs applied by Costa Rica. Visitors can easily look up market access information for Costa Rica by selecting the product and partner of their interest. I would like you to consider this link under the WP:ELYES #3 prescriptions. Moreover, the reliability and the pertinence of this link can be supported by the following facts 1) ITC is part of the United Nations, and aims to share trade and market access data on by country and product as a global public good 2) No registration is required to access this information 3) Market access data (Tariffs and non-tariff measures) are regularly updated
