Beginning of mediation

[edit]

OK, we will conduct the mediation on this page. For the disputes I handle, I have a few conditions. The first is that you accept and abide by a few ground rules. Please read and sign your acceptance to the ground rules. If you sign these, I expect you will abide by them. Once both of you have accepted, I will open up the discussion. Ground rules

[edit]
  • Please keep all comments focused on the mediation. Proper editing decorum must be maintained, and as such, incivility and personal attacks must not occur.
  • Sections of content that are under discussion in this mediation should not be edited during the mediation. If, as part of the mediation, there are proposals to change this content while the case is running, I will make them if I feel there is consensus to do so.
  • When discussion is addressing one proposal or issue, discussion should not veer of to an unrelated issue, unless I recommend we discuss an alternate issue. For that reason, I reserve the right to remove or refactor off-topic discussions.
  • Realise that while you may have strong feelings in the matter, your personal view must not undermine the interests of Wikipedia. Keep an open mind in the case, and realise that sometimes, you need to give a little to get a little.
  • This is not a formal part of Wikipedia's dispute resolution process. Nevertheless, I ask that everyone involved agree to abide by the outcome of this case.

Please sign just your username below, with four tildes (~~~~) to indicate your agreement with the ground rules and your participation in the case.

Framing the dispute

[edit]

OK, thanks for that everyone. Please add this page to your watchlist if you haven't already. I'd like to start with you both adding below (spaced out separately, and in dot points) the issues you see that need to be resolved in this dispute, in order of importance (from least to most - add more if needed). Then I will start working through these with you through discussion. Steven Zhang Help resolve disputes! 11:43, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Issues by Dentren
  1. Retention of focus on the economics of Chile, no dis-proportioned inclusion of political or military history or economic developments elsewhere
  2. Article section is to be a good reading experience not cluttered with petty nationalist issues (e.g. unnecessary defenses of a polities foreign policy). A quick look into the archives of talk:War of the Pacific reveal the real inferno that nationalistic issues can bring on.
  3. Caution is needed when try to establish mainstream views (if there is such in this topic) or weighting views. Wikipedia has a preference for English-language sources, this do however not mean they are more neutral or more "mainstream" than Spanish language sources from Chile, Peru, Bolivia or elsewhere.
