North Omaha

[edit]

Should East Omaha be included in the article on North Omaha? Talk about it here. Thanks. - Freechild 02:45, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No one who lived in East Omaha went to Sherman School. That was never considered EAST Omaha.

Pershing was the EAST OMAHA school. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Applestraw (talkcontribs) 12:30, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

East Omaha or Eastern Omaha - the grocery story bombing

[edit]

East Omaha used to be a separate town, which was entirely located east of the Missouri oxbow [1]. On most maps I look at, East Omaha is still located there [2]. So, I'm not sure if the grocery store bombing doesn't belong somewhere else. I'm bringing this up here, to keep it off the Omaha talk page. The question is, why is this here and not at North Omaha. One answer that isn't on the page is that when the airport was expanded, people from those areas in East Omaha that were affected moved to the area around 16th and Fort, bringing their hangups about race with them to an area that was formerly not as big of a problem. Smmurphy(Talk) 05:02, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

KETV uses "north" [3], while OWH uses "east" [4]. Smmurphy(Talk) 05:12, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
See the article my response to this. And notice above that I already brought this topic up for discussion. - Freechild 14:08, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In the history section, East Omaha is defined as strictly that which was east Omaha. But in talking about more recent events, a broader definition is used. This seems inconsistent. The article defines the boundary as the "cliff," you can see here. That seems natural, but I've honestly never heard of East Omaha defined in that way; if you have a citation of that, that is fine. I guess the question is, is this article about (1) East Omaha (defined by the old town and then suburb), (2) the eastern reaches of (North) Omaha (defined by the "cliff(?)", or (3) the parts of Omaha where people who lived in East Omaha at the time of the annex live now (similar geographically to (2)). (3) makes this an area defined by social characteristics, which the rest of the article tends to do, and could probably be cited. Regards, Smmurphy(Talk) 17:12, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Racism

[edit]

Highlighting the firebombing by putting it at the front of the article and later, and labeling a section racism when you write about that crime - however horrifying - and some complaints about school desegregation 30 years ago, makes it seem as if you are pushing a point. I deleted the statement about some say the KKK was still active since the 1920s since it isn't sourced. In most places the KKK activity fell off drastically after 1925-1926. To link the 1920s activity with one hate crime in 2007 seems to be stretching the point. Maybe the section should be Social Climate or demographics. Who lives there now? Who might be fearful/resentful of the Ethiopian grocer? There is little else in the article to indicate anything going on. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Parkwells (talkcontribs) 02:38, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
