The result of this discussion was no merge D O N D E groovily Talk to me 02:12, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose merger because the Inland port is not dry, so the definitions are different. --DThomsen8 (talk) 15:43, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose merger somewhere like Port of Manchester is an [inland] port because of being served by the Manchester Ship Canal, despite being 60 kilometres in-land; it's certainly not a dry port. —Sladen (talk) 12:01, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Support split The content on dry ports should be split off from the inland ports article, which now must address two very different things. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 03:15, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

List?

[edit]

Dry ports are an etirely sepparate concept to inland ports. Key to this are that they are typically serviced by rail or truck routes and not shipping / rivers. An example is City Deep near Johannesburg, South Africa. This is the world's largest dry port and is located hundreds of kilometers from any navigable water. Consequently I oppose the merging of these topics.

What about a list of dry ports? Tabletop (talk) 01:21, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose merge Agreed, an inland port is not particular novel, just a port on a canal or river. Whereas a dry port/rail container terminal is something that benefits from explanation. —Sladen (talk) 09:24, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Image of dry port

[edit]

It would be nice if there was an image of a dry port from any area in the world where Freedom of Panorama is enabled. Not sure if the Ruakura Inland Port is fully constructed yet, but it sure would be interesting to see once ready. Sadly, this also means I just cannot take photos of that place yet as a means of example, so I am stuck with being unable to upload images that would satisfy the Dry port article.
