I get the feeling whoever added the "citation needed" tag to "a discovered checkmate is possible" isn't a person who's familiar with chess. It's one of those self-evident obvious truths to anyone who's played and studied the game even for a few weeks. Sure, it happens quite -rarely- in chess, but I've seen positions where a pawn move would expose the enemy's king to a bishop, rook, or queen into a checkmate.
