Revision

[edit]

The interwoven "Celtic knot" nature of the Deverry storyline is -- to say it far more simply than is accurate -- complicated. An article on the series, done correctly, must be extensive. It needs to not only summarize each seperate novel, but catalogue the various characters and their relationships to one another in a way that is significant -- not simply with single line of extraneous description.

I think the table of incarnations is a definite keeper, though it needs a little tweaking (I moved Cullyn to his correct place, but I believe at least one of the dates remains slightly off).

Also, the list of Cultures is absolutely necessary, but again I feel it needs to be vastly expanded. There is no sense of why any of these groups are truly important, or where their place is in the storyline.

In that vein, a history of Deverry needs to be added, a la the short one begun at [[1]], and updated through the events of the 1060+ storyline.

And etc.

I am currently re-reading the 11 existing books before the release of The Gold Falcon later this spring, and would be more than willing to begin revision on this page as I go. However, this is a huge undertaking and any and all help would be more than appreciated.

Update

[edit]

A project I would still like to undertake. Unfortunately, school and a rather...eventful summer held me back from doing anything beyond reading "The Gold Falcon". I'll certainly update as I get the time to pick off the books one by one, but by no means should anyone feel like they can't do their own editing here. I'll take the help! Especially since it'll be slow going on my end for awhile. Jessica 04:53, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Change in Format

[edit]

While I agree that a properly-done Wikipedia entry on the Deverry books needs to be extensive, I think the main article is already becoming cluttered. There's a good deal of too-specific information in an article that is supposed to be about the series, not specific books within it. The chapter-by-chapter synopsis I began for Daggerspell, while appropriate for an article on that book, is probably already too long for an article about the series as a whole. Indeed, each book in the set deserves an article of it's own.

"Characters in the Deverry Cycle" is another good candidate for a seperate article. While each entry is brief, the list is already fairly long, and it doesn't even include any prior incarnations.

Yet another subject which would benefit from being an independent article (or perhaps numerous articles), would be the world of Annwn and its various nations, cultures and peoples.

This article can contain abreviated (and hopefully spoiler-free) capsules on these subjects and link to the full articles which will have much greater detail.Chris F 02:14, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I created a category for Deverry-related articles. CF

Novels

[edit]

I have an issue with the way the novels are grouped. Every book I have tat mentions it has the last 2 books (gold falcon and spirit stone) as being part of the previous 4 book sequence...Are the books incorrect with changes after publishing, or has someone changed it without knowing what it actually is?

It actually has to do with the publishers and suchlike - it is supposed to be a set of 4 times 4 books, with the last two, Gold Falcon and Spirit Stone, joining the Shadow Isle and one more book to complete the cycle and, hopefully, bring a conclusion to this great project! :D (Taken from www.deverry.com). transcription of W

[edit]

I believe IPA transcription of sound represented by 'w' should be given for corresponding names. It's hard to read in present condition. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.49.18.203 (talk) 10:33, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I am very used to Welsh orthography & pronunciation now (Deverry is very similar to Welsh), but I remember well how much trouble I had with w, u & y when I was first studying for Under Milkwood. Will make a note to self to add some pronunciations, and maybe a short note on pronouncing Deverry names, when I get a Round Twytt. D Anthony Patriarche (talk) 04:52, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

 Done

Added pronunciation to a couple of tricky names: Annwn, Rhiddaer, also wikilink on Annwn. Not sure of vowel length in Dwrgi (/dʊrɡiː/, /duːrɡiː/, /dərɡiː/?), so left alone. Further: could add a summary of Deverry pronunciation (it's all in the books though). --D Anthony Patriarche (talk) 23:00, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
