Davis AllenDavis Allen (designer) – not WP:PRIMARYTOPIC Joeykai (talk) 00:14, 1 October 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 03:15, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per nom, create DAB at basename.--Ortizesp (talk) 02:10, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Do Not Support, keep as is Oppose. There is no need to change this unless the objective is to make the footballer of the same name WP:PRIMARYTOPIC (for which I seen no justification). -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 07:36, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per WP:TWODABS. No value in sending all “Davis Allen” searchers to a two-entry dab page. A single hat note link here serves the footballer seekers just as well, while the designer seekers are clearly better off. —В²C 03:58, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong support the American footballer has 982 views compared with only 91[[1]] for the designer. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:34, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That’s an argument to move the football player to the basename, not to create a two-entry dab page. —В²C 22:25, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If the football player (who is now only 23 years old) becomes very well known over the arc of his lifetime (for football or other reasons), then maybe in future, we ought to make him the primary subject. For now, this seems fine the way we have it. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 08:02, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not really, he's already dominating page views now. It's clear that most readers are not looking for the designer when searching the name. At this point, his cumulative page views are higher than the designers. Ortizesp (talk) 17:51, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well at the last there is no primary topic so there is no reason to oppose moving the designer. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:28, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The designer seems to easily win on long-term significance. Of course the currently playing American football player has more pageviews. That's WP:RECENTISM for you. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:59, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong support, no PRIMARY, create DAB at base name.--Ortizesp (talk) 17:18, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: This seems very much like a case where the designer is primary [...] with respect to long-term significance [as he] has substantially greater enduring notability and educational value (please see WP:PT2). My opposition is strengthened based on this definition. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 17:35, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's one of the parameters for PRIMARY, but the other tests such as pageviews Wikipedia article traffic statistics (for the exact title of a page or a redirect) and redirect traffic statistics (for the total views of a page including traffic coming from its redirects) gives the American football player the edge. The designer is not so overwhelmingly PRIMARY in long-term significance that it can overcome having 10-50x less page views than the football player since his page was created. There's very clearly no PRIMARYTOPIC, so TWODABS applies. Ortizesp (talk) 17:50, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nomination, Ortizesp and Crouch, Swale. Likewise support creation of a Davis Allen disambiguation page that would list the two men and, under section header "See also", would add similar names, such as Allen Davis (disambiguation), Allan Davis (disambiguation) and Alan Davis (disambiguation). —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 18:33, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: Unconvinced by these arguments. It just seems unlikely that readers will confuse Davis Allen with Allen Davis (or any alternative spellings). This looks like loads of administrative overhead for a relatively unknow 23 year old American football player (who, apart from being a football player, has no particular notable achievements in his biography). --— Preceding unsigned comment added by Cl3phact0 (talkcontribs) 19:51, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand this argument, why would users confuse Davis Allen and Allen Davis, and what does this have to do with this page move. Ortizesp (talk) 12:55, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In any two dab situation there are two topics a and b vying for title T. Regardless of whether either is primary, we have three choices.
    1. a at T, b at T (b)
    2. a at T (a), b at T
    3. a at T (a), b at T (b), and a two entry dab page at T.
I contend either 1 or 2 is preferable to 3 regardless of which is primary or if there even is a primary topic. Prove me wrong: how does anyone benefit from 3 over 1 or 2? It’s “loads of administrative overhead” to what end? To make one article harder (more clicks) to find? Why??? Nothing is broken here. Leave it alone. A dab page is something we should be striving to avoid, and leaving one article at the base name with a hatnote link to the other provides all the useful functionality of a pointless dab page. —-В²C 19:38, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
