History of Data monitoring committee

[edit]

I would like to see some information on the history of this, when was this formally required, and was this instituted due to the Tuskegee experiment or did anything happen which triggered the need for this? I found some of this information on the Wikipedia page Institutional Review Board so maybe some of that can be adapted and included here, or alternatively, this page can be redirected or made as a subsection to the IRB page.--Beezer137 (talk) 19:18, 12 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I added a link to the February 2024 draft of the FDA document "Use of Data Monitoring Committees in Clinical Trials". Although the document is yet to be approved, it seems important enough that readers of this article would want to be aware of it. The link should be updated once the document receives final approval.
