Not only does this article exclusively talk about the city of the same name instead of the region, it also contradicts that article's translation of the name. Joffeloff 13:15, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dar-es-salaam is the biggest city in Tanzania. It was the former capital city. Although Dodoma is the current capital of Tanzania, Dar-es-salaam holds the status of being its Commercial Capital. It is located in the Eastern Coast and is the main port of the Country. It name "Dar-es-salaam" comes from Arabic language, meaning "abode of peace".

To most travellers, Dar es Salaam is just a convenient port of call on the way to more exotic destinations of Zanzibar, the game parks, Pemba or Mafia Islands. This is a great pity, because “Dar”, as it is affectionately called by aficionados of the city, is a fascinating rabbit warren of a tropical port, often surprising the unwary wanderer with scenes of breathtaking beauty. While Dodoma has been (somewhat absurdly) appointed as the new capital of Tanzania, Dar is the real capital, a hustling, bustling seaport that straddles some of the most important sea routes on earth.

I removed this from the article as it seems to be completely about the city, which already has its own article. I moved it here in case it has anything that should be merged into the city article. --Galaxiaad 01:14, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
