Francophone
[edit]You people make it so obvious that you are a bunch of idiots...what the f*** does a "francophone Haitian" suppose to mean??? I guess I have my idea, but I like to hear the person who edited this article say it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.82.191.103 (talk) 02:46, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- If you have a comment, please feel free to state it here. Please don't talk in riddles, and please use civil language. "You people" are volunteer editors who are doing their best to write an encyclopedia. You are welcome to help. Thanks. – Wdchk (talk) 03:01, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- I can apologize for profanity but not for "you people" as it is clear to me that you are neither Haitian nor have great knowledge of Haitian History and understand the implications of what you are writing. I will therefore remove this part of the article until I find a better what to express what I believe you (or whomever wrote it originally) was trying to say. Volunteer writers or not, I still believe you should write about things you know best. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.83.74.179 (talk) 18:07, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
- You still haven't said what exactly you object to about the word "francophone". I didn't put it there myself, but I imagine most people would take it to mean that Laferrière's primary language is French, as opposed to Haitian Creole or English (other likely languages for Haitians and Canadians). In this context, however, I suppose the important point is that he writes in French, so I have edited to say just that. – Wdchk (talk) 19:11, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
- Haiti is a Francophone country, which makes that statement redundant. Haitian Creole, is also a Francophone language as it is 90% French in vocabulary. (Creoleophones are too ambigious, as it can relate to many different types of creoles and not specific to "French" Creoles). Hence, I agree with 70.82.191.103. Even if a Haitian was born in the English-speaking side of Canada, could we really say Anglo-Haitian? It doesn't make sence. Savvyjack23 (talk) 06:25, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation needed
[edit]There is another Dany Laferriere in the Canadian context. The name is spelled without the "accent grave" on the last letter 'e'. https://www.linkedin.com/in/dany-laferriere-cd-5685805a/ His LinkedIn.com profile states that he is a strategic communicator, result-oriented leader, trusted executive advisor and storyteller. He is a lobbyist for the Canadian Fuels Association. His name came up in a news article in The Narwhal, an online news outlet: https://thenarwhal.ca/pierre-poilievre-staffers-lobbying/ At first, I thought this was a mistake because an award-winning novelist would not lobby a politician's office for the fossil fuels industry. The search engine only found him because I included the keyword "Fuels". I believe this is relevant because he is involved in the discussion about fossil fuels policy and the climate crisis in Canadian politics, a topic that is sure to become more salient as Canada nears a federal election next year. 216.126.73.221 (talk) 17:58, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
