I can review this soon. Seattle (talk) 06:33, 10 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Files, references and

  • File:Jardine Matheson Building The Bund during the Late Qing Dynasty.jpg: Needs to be in the public domain in US as well; needs a more specific source URL, one which goes to the specific image; needs a PD US tag
    • Similarly, the image is cropped from page 604 of the same book. The content page of the image has since then been suitably amended while a PD US tag has been added.
  • File:Sir-william-jardine.jpg: Needs to be public domain in the US as well; needs a tag
    • I have conducted a search based on the information provided in the image's content page. As the information rightly points out, the image is cropped from the title page of the book Transactions of the Dumfriesshire and Galloway Natural History and Antiquarian Society, which was first published in 1919. As suggested by the US PD template, the book together with the image should be regarded to be in the public domain in the US, given that they were first published before 1923. Besides, the book can be downloaded for free from Dumfriesshire and Galloway Natural History and Antiquarian Society, which is the publisher of the book.
  • "Annex: Major experience": This should be formatted under the "Footnotes" section, not the "Honours" section, so that the section headers won't break
    • I have moved it to the "See also" section. If it is put under the "Footnotes" section, I afraid it will in fact mess with the "References" section.
  • References "Mildred Margaret Sophia Fortune", "British Medical Journal", "Report of the War Revenue Committee" are dead links
    • They have since then been replaced by archived / alternative links.
  • "I name this boat ... after a giant Amazon fish" needs a {{subscription required}} template
    • The template has been added.
  • I don't see a reason to disambiguate between English and Chinese references; all Chinese references need a {{Link language}} tag, and their titles translated into English
    • Completed as proposed.
  • The "References" section is usually organized alphabetically, by author's last name, and then by title if the author is unknown.
    • For this article, I don't feel quite comfortable to organise them by author's last name / title, given that the references of this article include various kinds of materials, such as newspapers, gazettes, articles, webpage and books. I fear that the section may look less organised as a result.

Let me know when you've addressed these comments, and I'll continue with the textual review. Seattle (talk) 18:36, 10 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No responses in over almost two weeks; failing. Seattle (talk) 17:33, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please kindly find my replies as highlighted in green above. As the major contributor of the article, I would like to thank HYH.124 for nominating it and Seattle for reviewing it. Sorry that I have not been able make the replies earlier as I have not been notified. --Clithering (talk) 17:19, 28 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Clithering:, @HYH.124: I will continue with the review. I have changed some licenses at the Commons to reflect that some of the authors are unknown.

  • I'm sorry; I should have been clearer: the references in Chinese should include the original title in Chinese, as well as the title in English. See the second reference at List of municipalities in Rio Grande do Norte, for example.
  • was a British-Hong Kong entrepreneur and politician who was chairman and managing director of Jardine Matheson & Co. from 1945 to 1951, during which he was appointed by the Hong Kong government as an unofficial member of the Executive Council from 1946 to 1951, as well as the senior unofficial member of the Legislative Council from 1946 to 1950. can you break this into two sentences?
  • The turbulence prevented the firm from reviving the profitable China business that it had enjoyed in the past. can you be more specific here? What exactly did the firm make or sell that made it profitable?
  • In 1947, he founded the Hong Kong Airways with a hope of developing the firm's civil aviation business Jardine Matheson & Co's civil aviation base?
  • As the senior unofficial member of the Legislative Council, Landale was an active critic of the Hong Kong government who was noted for his unsuccessful attempt to oppose the government's plan of re-introducing income tax after the war in 1947. How exactly did he become the senior unofficial member of the Legislative Council? Can you restructure the sentence to: As the senior unofficial member of the Legislative Council, Landale criticized the Hong Kong government for its re-introduction of an income tax after the war in 1947.?
  • Besides, he moved a motion in the Council in 1949 "Besides" is awkward; how about "Two years later, he moved a motion in the Council to debate the "Young Plan", which proposed creation of a Municipal Council for representative democracy; Landale believed that reforming the Legislative Council would be a better alternative."
  • The notes don't need retrieval dates

Thank you very much for your further review. I have to spend some time on this and I shall definitely notify you once my reply is available. Thanks again. --Clithering (talk) 16:20, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hope to continue review before next GA nomination

[edit]

Hello, User:Seattle, I am sorry for not having noticed your review of this article. I have already informed the main contributor "Clithering" to the article, so that he could address the issues you mentioned soon. I understand that you have closed the GA nomination. In the meantime, if we get a response from him and all issues are addressed, would you mind to continue with the textual review (to be treated as comments to the article)? Your help would be appreciated. HYH.124 (talk) 13:40, 26 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Clithering: I'll reply here as GA nomination have ended. I believe you have misunderstood Seattle's comments (if not the case, I would also like to clarify on this). Yes, translation of the titles of sources to English would be helpful for English-only readers, but the original title in Chinese ought to be retained in the article. If you translate everything, it would be very difficult for readers to source for the relevant materials in Chinese. Also, it is good that other information such as author, publisher, etc. to be in English, but for those which are less known to others or better known in Chinese, it would also be good (but optional) to indicate when they first appear.
