Competing nations

[edit]

@Beeeggs Thanks for starting this page. Do you have a source for the list of competing nations? I know some have said they will be involved and I had read that Vietnam are not likely to travel, but what about Myanmar (an ICC member), Laos, Brunei and Timor Leste? Has there been anything to confirm that they are not sending teams? Bs1jac (talk) 10:03, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Bs1jac - I've only added those that I could confirm with news articles or social media. I think Myanmar is likely to participate given their track record but I haven't been able to confirm. Brunei seems unlikely as I don't think they have organised cricket at the moment, and I'm not aware of any cricket presence in Laos or Timor Leste. It's all still a bit up in the air I think - one of the articles (can't remember which) mentioned that they weren't 100% confident that all events would proceed as there have been issues in the past. It will be impressive if Cambodia pulls off all eight events! Beeeggs (talk) 11:15, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK thanks. Yes definitely mixed reports on the formats, and no reason why on their calendar their have grouped "T50" and T10 as one sport and T20 and sixes as another (I have changed the calendar to just have one row for cricket instead of separating them out. Eight events does feel like overkill tbh, and not keen on the only allowing teams to enter 3 of the 4 for each gender. I imagine the bigger teams will opt out of six-a-aside and focus on the higher profile T20I event, followed by 50-over and T20, which could result in a weaker team taking the medals in the least popular event! Controversy

[edit]

I don't think we have heard the end this. Tournament format was undeniably poor with no semi-finals, but the eligibility thing could have repurcusions on the status of Cambodia's matches. If the players received passports a few days ahead of the tournament, that probably means they were eligible and its just a case of exceptions being made to allow those late additions after the shortlist deadline in March.
