Railway station
[edit]According to the article, the village had a railway station until a major accident closed the station in 1909. No source is cited for this, and as far as I know the only railway station in the area was Holme railway station, which closed in 1930. —Snigbrook 00:58, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Largest Parish
[edit]The Claim that Cliviger is one of the largest parishes in the UK appears to be untrue.
Assuming that ‘largest’ refers to its geographic area:
- A quick look a Lancashire County Council’s mapping site (Access here) shows that in Lancashire alone, parishes such as Bowland Forest High, Over Wyresdale, and North Turton (all rural in nature) are considerably bigger. Although I haven’t checked, I doubt that Lancashire contains all of the largest parishes in the country.
If ‘largest’ refers to its population:
- Cliviger 2,350
- Briercliffe 3,187
- North Turton 3,736
- Hapton, Lancashire 3,769
I believe this claim probably relates to the Ecclesiastical parish of Whalley, which in medieval times was believed to be the second largest in England (referenced here on page iv). Cliviger was part of this parish, and the Rev. Dr. Whitaker (who built the Church and was its first Vicar) wrote a book about it. Full text available at archive.org
As such I plan to remove that or other similar claims unless they offer a persuasive reference (the parish website is not enough). --Trappedinburnley (talk) 19:25, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
