[edit]we should put he got a world heavyweight belt after he won the superbowl. Also that he was a special referee on 2-11-11 smackdown in the world heavyweight championship match with edge and dolph ziggler replacing vickie guerrero — Preceding unsigned comment added by Black60dragon (talk • contribs) 03:02, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
- This WWE crap, though it is notable, shouldn't be the first item in the article. I'd move it, but I'm not sure how. 173.249.64.220 (talk) 21:57, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
- I'd describe it as silly, not crap. However, I made a simple edit to move it lower down on the Wiki page.

Under "Career Information" near the top of the article for Clay Matthews III, his debut year is listed as 2010. This is incorrect. Seeing as how he was drafted by the Packers in 2009 and made the 2009 Pro Bowl, please change the listed debut year for Clay from "2010" to "2009". Thank you.

Done That does seem to be correct; I've changed the year. Qwyrxian (talk) 05:40, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

former vs free agent
[edit]I hate to have to talk about this again and this time i’m not going to change anything without first saying something here. but while you are correct, clay matthews has not announced his retirement, he has not played since 2019. after a certain point it is more of “the game retires the player for them”. as i said many players never formally announce it. It has been 3 years and safe to say that clay is done. Bears247 (talk) 19:44, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
- I've reverted per consensus at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Football_League#Listing_NFL_players_as_"former" that players who have not played in over two years should not still be considered "free agents" in the lead paragraph. From the discussion, the only real question moving forward is should we even bother saying "former" or "free agent" in the lead at all. @Bears247 and SteelerFan1933: please discuss at that WikiProject talk page since both of you obviously have an interest in this subject matter. Eagles 24/7 (C) 21:11, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
- Oh sorry, got it. SteelerFan1933 (talk) 23:46, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
- so in that case then should i go back and change players back that i previously changed from “free agent” to “former” because those players have only been inactive for 1 year? Bears247 (talk) 22:10, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Bears247: To clarify, the consensus is that two years should definitely be enough to be considered a former player. It is still not clear about the time between one and two years. Eagles 24/7 (C) 22:35, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
- yeah i got that. but previously I was using one year. So my question is since it is now 2 years, should i change players that are over 1 year but still under 2 years back to free agent? Bears247 (talk) 23:41, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
- @eagles247 just want clarification on this because i have no problem doing so if that’s what you’d prefer. Bears247 (talk) 16:24, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Bears247: Please use {{re}} or {{ping}} to notify users of messages. I did not receive your message using the code you used. There is still no consensus either way for the time period between one and two years of not playing. I wouldn't bother going back and changing anything at the moment. "Matthews is widely considered the greatest NFL linebacker of all-time."
[edit]Source(s)? He was very good, but "the greatest NFL linebacker of all-time"?. No DPOY, just a couple of All-Pro and Pro Bowls. --134.102.108.6 (talk) 10:51, 28 September 2022 (UTC) (lost my login, i don't know...)

[edit]This is Clay Matthews Jr. His father was also a football player 108.69.113.46 (talk) 00:16, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
- No, his father is Clay Matthews Jr. And his grandfather is Clay Matthews Sr. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 02:02, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
