Rename article to Clan Macdonald of Sleat

[edit]

I think the article should follow the style used on the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs website [1]. So, that would mean using the form Clan Macdonald of Sleat instead of the current Clan MacDonald of Sleat. Also, see the Burkes Peerage website to see how the chief is styled [2] "25th Chief of Macdonald of Sleat".--Celtus (talk) 10:06, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. My grandfather was the chairman of the first executive committee of the Clan Donald Lands Trust (and a prominent member of the clan) and he always styled himself Macdonald. Looking at some of the literature that does seem the proper way to refer to it. Francis Davey (talk) 17:18, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, i moved it. If anyone has a problem with it they can let people know by writing something here.--Celtus (talk) 05:33, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pedigree

[edit]

There's something fishy about the Gaelic pedigree. It's given as Shir Iain Gorraidh mac Alasdair Somhairle mhic Gorraidh 'ic Alasdair Uilleam 'ic Gorraidh 'ic Alasdair Uilleam 'ic Gorraidh 'ic Alasdair 'ic Alasdair 'ic Seumais 'ic Dòmhnaill Breac 'ic Seumais Mhor 'ic Dòmhnaill Gorm Òg 'ic GillEasbaig Clèirich 'ic Dòmhnaill 'ic Dòmhnaill Gorm 'ic Dòmhnaill Gruamach 'ic Dòmhnaill Gallach 'ic Ùisdean 'ic Alasdair 'ic Dòmhnaill 'ic Eoin 'ic Aonghais Òg 'ic Aonghais Mhòr 'ic Dòmhnaill 'ic Raghnaill 'ic Somhairle.

But in Gaelic almost all are missing the expected case marking on the names, it should be:

Shir Iain Gorraidh mac Alasdair Somhairle mhic Gorraidh 'ic Alasdair Uilleam 'ic Gorraidh 'ic Alasdair Uilleam 'ic Gorraidh 'ic Alasdair 'ic Alasdair 'ic Sheumais 'ic Dhòmhnaill Bhric 'ic Sheumais Mhòir 'ic Dhòmhnaill Ghuirm Òig 'ic GillEasbaig Chlèirich 'ic Dhòmhnaill 'ic Dhòmhnaill Ghuirm 'ic Dhòmhnaill Ghruamaich 'ic Dhòmhnaill Ghallaich 'ic Ùisdein 'ic Alasdair 'ic Dòmhnaill 'ic Eoin 'ic Aonghais Òig 'ic Aonghais Mhòir 'ic Dhòmhnaill 'ic Raghnaill 'ic Shomhairle.

Does anyone one know why this entire chain appears to be wrong? Akerbeltz (talk) 10:58, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not an expert on late mediaeval Scots Celtic, but aren't those all female descents? nic as opposed to mac, daughter of rather than son of? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.199.247.3 (talk) 02:35, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
