[edit]

The Mayor of Casper is not elected by the public. The City Council apoints a mayor from it's ranks.

The council's choice of a mayor is termed under its own rules an election. The word "election" does not in and of itself imply popular suffrage.

A few comments

[edit]

As the other poster said, Casper's mayor is appointed by the city council and is not directly elected.

Pete Williams was never part of Casper's gay community. He was outed while living in Washington DC, where he served as press secretary for Dick Cheney, who oversaw purges of gay men and lesbians from the country's military. References to Pete Williams should be amended to indicate that he was outed in rather embarrassing circumstances, although he is part of the 'outing movement' started by Michaelangelo Signorile. For this reason, he is somewhat notable, not for his connection to Casper.

The usual criterion for notability is that the listee have a wikipedia article. Plazak (talk) 22:30, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Although Williams is noted for events that took place other than IN Casper, he is nevertheless a notable person FROM Casper.Dgndenver (talk) 03:50, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Rev. Reeb?

[edit]

Rev. Reeb grew up in Casper, he always referenced it as his home town. He graudated from NCHS, attended Casper College and married a Casper girl. After his murder, his ashes were spread outside of Casper as he loved the surrounding mountains and was an avid outdoorsman. Much of his family still remains in Casper and in other parts of Wyoming. -- Leah Reeb

Why is he listed here? There is no mention of this city on his page. Did he live here at one time or should his reference be removed? Zenithian 16:48, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Very long introduction

Page has a way too long introduction. Can parts of it not be put in later sub-sections? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.150.38.134 (talk) 18:19, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Economy" section needs to refer to Powder River Basin

[edit]

I looked up the article on Casper, WY, because I knew that a particular coal basin has an enormous role in Casper's economy -- but I had a senior moment, and I couldn't recall the name of the basin. When my senior moment had passed, I said to myself, "Isn't that the Powder River Basin?" Yes indeed. But the article should name that basin, in case someone else doesn't know it. Josh Saunders

[edit]

There have been multiple attempts to add Josh Saunders to the list of notable people. The individual whose Wikipedia article is linked does not match the various descriptions of the local Josh Saunders. Please stop adding Josh Saunders without an accurate link or reliable sources establishing notability.El piel (talk) 12:30, 8 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Media

[edit]

So, Casper is the second largest city in the state. But there is nothing on TV or radio in the area. Just the newspapers. Which media market is this city in? Or which stations do cover Casper? YellowAries2010 (talk) 01:22, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
