[edit]I'm kind of new at this and because of that, I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right place. This comment deals with the the controversy section in the Carole James article. If this article is the entry for Carole James, why would Gordon Campbell's drunk driving controversey be included? It pretty much looks like an attempt to make her look better by painting her opponent in a negative light. I don't see any problem including it in his article becuase that's what its supposed to be, an article on Gordon Campbell. Islander at heart 04:44, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- Welcome to Wikipedia. This is the right place for that comment. The talk pages are the place to discuss how we might improve the articles. I agree with you, Campbell's DUI had nothing to do with that controversy and should be removed. I'll do that now. --JGGardiner 07:02, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Expand and de-resume-ify
[edit]In fairness to the Gordon Campbell article, which I've gone after for being such a mostly-p.r. manifesto, despite some critical content, I came here to look to see if there were any parallel violations from the NDP side of "not using Wikiepdia as a political brochure" and of having only one side of events/policies, and I do not in fact see that; what I do see is an overall resume-like tone which is not appropriate for Wikipedia; I'm not the one to expand this article but some "notable" content is needed to make this something more than a c.v., which is pretty well at ll it is now. Policy positions, criticism of her and her policies from the media and the government bench (and her responses) - something to enrich the article beyond its current rather tame condition. Admittedly, there's not as much "copy" available or relevant on Leaders of the Opposition vs. Premiers who inveitably provoke controversy in anything they do or say. But with an election pending ,this article needs more actual political content, not just biographical and public service information. Mostly I'm concerned about it reading like a resume, though not sure how to fix that. A couple of things could help - the general terms liek "she worked for several other organizations" could be detailed out, and which minidstry "director of child care policies" was under; I gather, being from Burns Lake, her husband is Dakelh or maybe Wet'su-wet'en rather than simply "First Nations" (which is a racial, rather than an aboriginal-ethnic/nationality description). Details of issues in her leadership race also come to mind. Her positions on "burning issues of the day" (whatever those might be) seem also absent; what does she say about run of the river hydro devlopment privatization, about Railgate etc.; as Leader of the Opposition her responses to government policy and actions/statements of the Premier and cabinet are relevant (her position on the Premier's drunk driving conviction, as noted, being largely irrelevant, true). Let's put it this way; I've heard more in the news from other members of her caucus than from her; keeping a low profile in the media doesn't lend itself well to citability, of course....anyway mercifully this isn't POV at all, or noticeably, other than being c.v. like neutral/positive in a drab kind of way. Who is she adn what does she believe and what would she do if she were Premier are all absent....Skookum1 (talk) 02:05, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
