Neutrality dispute

[edit]

The sections on Gutierrez's second gubernatorial term and his corruption charges seem to be written from an overwhelmingly pro-Gutierrez point of view. Changes ought to be to ensure these sections' neutrality. Anyone else agree? A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 04:33, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Many other people do not think so, since Governor Gutierrez was the only one confronted with so many natural disaters and disruptions to implement his 4 years Plan for the Island of Guam. Please see a non disputable endorsement from former Congressman Underwood below.

They were running against each other for Governor later, but Robert Underwood said this about Carl Gutierrez:

In His Own Words Robert Underwood on Carl Gutierrez on the occasion of President William Jefferson Clinton’s historic visit to Guam.

”It is my privilege to bring to the podium the next speaker. He is a partner in President Clinton’s work for our nation and, through his diligent efforts, he has made President Clinton not just take a passing interest in Guam’s affairs, but has helped make him a true friend. And he was so intent on making sure that President Clinton made this trip to Guam, I fully expected him to be in the cockpit when I boarded Air Force One in Washington D.C. I am speaking of course of our own Governor, Governor Carl Gutierrez.
In events of this nature, it is customary to recount the achievements of a major leader like our Governor. But I prefer to his strengths as a leader and as a navigator our island through some troubled times. In his first term of office, he faced more challenges that any other elected governor in our islands’ history. He had to deal with declining revenues caused by a downturn in the Asian economies, the devastation of a Typhoon Paka and the world wide attention caused by the tragedy of a major air disaster in August 1997. In each instance, his ability to lead and his capacity to deal with adversity was severely tested and in each instance, he passed with flying colors. It has always been our Governor’s strength that adversity and challenges bring out the best in him. We are indeed fortunate to have such a leader during these difficult times.
Carl Gutierrez is a man marked by his tenacity, his hands-on approach to leadership and his compassion and understanding of the conditions of ordinary Guamanians. He is driven by his love for Guam, he is driven by his desire to make our name prominent in the region and around the world and he is driven by his compassion for you and for me. He is our Governor, he is our island’s leader, the Honorable Carl T.C. Gutierrez , —Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.108.192.51 (talk) 08:59, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality Dispute

[edit]

I agree this page is extremely Pro-Carl. If anyone from Guam read this article they would agree that it is very unbalanced and blankets many truths. Whoever wrote this is a genius spin doctor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnnie walker69 (talkcontribs) 12:24, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Corruption charges

[edit]

I removed this section for now because it dealt with accusations of a serious crime but was unsourced, per the policy on biographies of living people. The section should be rewritten/restored with reliable independent sources to avoid POV. 19:23, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

"In 1978, the Republican majority had redrawn electoral districts for the island to ensure their continued dominance."

[edit]

I removed that passage as it was not sourced and it reads like a campaign-wish flyer Sprinkler21 (talk) 01:00, 13 June 2011 (UTC)Sprinkler21[reply]

Page needs lots of work. Will try to as work/job permits. Any other Guam editors out there that might be interested, I'd appreciate the help. Sprinkler21 (talk) 02:21, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Sprinkler21[reply]

removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV

[edit]

I've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:

This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
  1. There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
  2. It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
  3. In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.

Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now. If discussion is continuing and I've failed to see it, however, please feel free to restore the template and continue to address the issues. Thanks to everybody working on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 02:46, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
