Images of Famous Alumni
I added back the image of Cindy Nelson to the famous alumni. Since there's really only room for the 3 most notable alumni and Lunden is of questionable fame of yester-year, and Ms. Nelson currently has hits in the Top 40 nationally, this change makes more sense.
Bruce Burton
Famous Alumni -
- Bruce Burton - Assistant Sports Editor, The Roseville Press-Tribune
- I'm thinking this is some sort of practical joke. I don't think Mr. Burton is worthy of Wikipedia fame just yet.
KAN
is the kappa iota nu reference really necessary? Just sounds like blatant self-promotion...
- still trivia
so what? There are dozens of gay fraternities/sororities within this country, it's not like this group is particularly groundbreaking. Heck, they're not even the only one on campus. I'm fine with creating a section for all the Greek houses, but singling this group out is just taking advantage of Wikipedia.
EJO
Did Edaward James Olmos attend this school? His wikipeida entry makes no metnion of CSUS, and it seems like he mostly kicked around in the LA area
- Hmmm, I searched around and found this press release from CSUS. I would imagine if he was alumni of the school, it would say so. http://www.csus.edu/news/041205olmos.stm —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jgladding (talk • contribs) 00:04, 10 March 2007 (UTC).

The school's name
...is California State University, Sacramento, according the the school's own website. Please stop changing it to Sacramento State. Closenplay 10:26, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- The official name of the university is "California State University, Sacramento". However, as part of the Destination 2010 program, the university changed both it's seal to the new design, created a new logo (similar to the seal), and made official the names "Sacramento State" or, more tersely, "Sac State". Either "Sacramento State" or "CSU, Sacramento" are acceptable. I'll double-check the Identity Style Guide to see if "Sacramento State University" is acceptable. --DevinCook 05:21, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- As I understand it, the name change is a unilateral move by president Gonzalez that is facing a lot of opposition.63.197.134.209 17:49, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Technically, the name is still California State Unversity Sacramento. However the school more or less goes by the unofficial name "Sac State" or "Sacramento State", a nickname they refused to officially acknowlege for years. For all official documents and such (including Wikipedia), CSUS is still the school's name. For marketing purposes, it's Sacramento State. --Jgladding 17:32, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
If you look in the Style Guide, "CSU, Sacramento" is unacceptable. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.174.7.191 (talk) 21:04, August 20, 2007 (UTC)
- Just a reminder, please do not insert "CSUS" into the articles. That term is no longer appropriate per the University Style Guide. HornetBandAlum (talk) 05:26, 26 August 2008 (UTC).

Fair use rationale for Image:SacState.jpg
Image:SacState.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Trivia section
What happened to the trivia section? Now we have a subsection for "famous visitors"? Come on... Jgladding —Preceding comment was added at 06:21, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
- Trivia sections are highly discouraged under Wikipedia guidelines. I attempted to work all the information into the article in the proper locations. The notable guests listed in the trivia didn't fit anywhere else in the article. To keep the information, I created a simple section. Though it's a tad empty... it can be expanded... :-) Cheers. -DevinCook (talk) 07:07, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
I apologize if this is in the wrong section, but I just wanted to point out that missing amongst the "famous visitors" to the campus entry was Hillary Clinton, who visited the campus in 1992 to campaign for her husband. I watched her speak and even got to meet and chat with her after her speech. Sean Smith. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.177.63.172 (talk) 05:52, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- I quick search on Google (involving many different keyword combinations) didn't turn up anything. I don't doubt she came to the college, but it has to be verifiable. Perhaps somebody else could have some luck looking up references. Killiondude (talk) 06:04, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
Clubs & Orgs

- I simplified the list a bit recently. I agree that it might be a good idea to create a Clubs at California State University, Sacramento page. I would like to hear other opinions on the issue before I create a page. -DevinCook (talk) 19:27, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- It may be a good idea to do a page on all the aux organizations.--Jgladding (talk) 19:57, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- Good point. Perhaps Organizations at California State University, Sacramento? -DevinCook (talk) 20:13, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- The page is not out of hand at all, There are 250 organizations all of them up here would be out of hand. Devin, please stop putting Clubs or Fraternities in the Auxilary Organization area. They are not, part of ASI, the Bookstore, or the University Union. They are a part of the campus whether you like it or not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.86.148.43 (talk) 23:11, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- The Greeks should not receive preferential treatment any more than any other social or academic club. We will keep the club section separate from Campus Auxiliary Organizations. I renamed the section back to Clubs and Organizations. I will re-add the removed links. This content does deserve a second page. I will perform the move later tonight.-DevinCook (talk) 23:21, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

removal of CSUS from aka list
why cant we use CSUS in the 'also known as' section? my insertion of the term was undone here. i think it needs to be there, and there's even a redirect to this article from CSUS. badmachine (talk) 04:56, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
- ok, i undid the removal of CSUS from the 'also known as' section, and added a citation from the sacramento bee. badmachine (talk) 07:01, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Because the school has been trying to discouraged the term. Please see the University Style Guide for the proper terminology. The media in this town cannot seem to grasp this and this site should not be encouraging this. This is from the Identity Section further down the page: "In 2004, the school decided to re-brand itself and is now known as Sacramento State (Sac State for short); though students had been referring to the school by this name for years. The official name of the university remains California State University, Sacramento. The terms "CSUS," "Cal State Sacramento", "CSU, Sacramento", and "CS Sacramento" are no longer appropriate per the new Identity Style Guide.[3]" User:HornetBandAlum
- i stand corrected, but i think its bizarre that they dont want to use the initials, since theyre so commonly used. my bad tho... i am a badmachine (talk) 20:58, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- Its ok. The school just wants to have a name that stands out more nationally, like Fresno State (officially, California State University, Fresno). That and there are two "CSUS'": Sacramento State and Stanislaus. User:HornetBandAlum 15:33, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Removal and Return of ROTC
Should there be a subsection in the history section of former college president Donald Garth's removal of ROTC over "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", and its subsequent return to the campus?--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 05:05, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Conflict of Interest
This article was recently the subject of the removal of controversial material, and blanking of sourced content, by the office of the chancellor of the university. This, by it's very definition, is WP:COI editing. The article needs to be gone through for a complete review, which I will take on when available. In the meantime, the COI tag is there. Anyone else who wishes to help is, of course, welcome - I tend to strip school articles to their bones. Scr★pIronIV 14:02, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
- First, I don't seem to see a direct connection between the unregistered editor who made a few edits yesterday and the "office of the chancellor of the university." Can you please explain how that editor is connected to the university? Second, I'm not seeing (perhaps because I don't see the connection just described) obvious evidence that others with a COI have significantly edited this article. How do a few edits by one editor, edits that were reverted, justify the template that you've placed in the article? ElKevbo (talk) 15:40, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
- I am saying that it warrants scrutiny because of it - I appreciate your looking at it. The template is there precisely to bring that sort of attention. I have some significant issues with the overall length and tone of the article, particularly the completely unsourced Gonzalez section and their "aggressive" expansion. The chancellor's office has been contributing to this article since at least 2007.[1] Scr★pIronIV 15:53, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
- Can you please answer my first question: What evidence exists that the university is editing this article? ElKevbo (talk) 16:08, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
- Certainly. The IP resolves to "AS2152 California State University, Office of the Chancellor" Scr★pIronIV 16:16, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
- @ScrapIronIV: So we have a couple approaches here.
- 1) We could revert every edit from the IP address you've pointed out as from the Chancellor's office. I don't don't find their their edits as violating WP:NPOV to any great degree, but I get it if you feel like it is introducing some subtle bias and should be reverted.
- 2) You could suggest the edits or editors that are introducing WP:POV into this article, and then as a group on this talk page we could decide upon the edits that are worthy of deletion or the content that needs revision.
- I realize you want others to go through this with "a fine-tooth comb". But it is a tad difficult, since, especially relative to other articles on Wikipedia, this article doesn't seem to suffer some any great bias towards one view or another. In any case, please respond. Brycehughes (talk) 02:46, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
- That sounds like a fine plan; as there is more than one IP involved, and at least one registered editor that I won't name to avoid WP:OUTING, as demands of evidence have been requested for something as simple as IP resolution. Suffice to say that active staff are also contributing. No, I don't think the bias is terrible, but it is definitely there in a good bit of the choice of wording. I would recommend that we start with the completely unsourced section on the "Gonzalez era." Scr★pIronIV 13:49, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
- I scrapped it and the preceding section about the preceding president. They were both utterly boring anyway. Of course feel free to add stuff back in if you think I've gone too far. Anything else you see? Brycehughes (talk) 02:44, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
- Looking pretty good, so I'll remove the COI tag. Add it back if you think it needs more work and please suggest edits here. Brycehughes (talk) 19:19, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
- We were nowhere near done. What's with the removal without discussion? Progress was being made. Restoring. Scr★pIronIV 14:38, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Second half of the "early years" history section is completely unsourced, and talks of the "heart" of the campus. Enrollment figures are also unsourced. Scr★pIronIV 15:13, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
- Not sure how that warrants COI tag? Brycehughes (talk) 15:45, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
- When we are done with the entire article, and we agree the work is complete, is what will will warrant its removal. Scr★pIronIV 15:49, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
- No I mean, how does the "early years" section and enrollment figures warrant a COI tag? Brycehughes (talk)
- Please don't be obtuse. The entire article needs to be gone through before the tag is removed. That is what was agreed upon. Considering how long the COI editing has been going on, it is perfectly reasonable. The last thing we want is a redux of the Bates College fiasco. Scr★pIronIV 18:19, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
- Huh? I give up. Brycehughes (talk) 19:54, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

- Ok, next steps. Mind if I list this at WP:3O? Brycehughes (talk) 02:52, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

I removed this from 3O because it is a dispute between more than two editors. If a compromise cannot be reached, consider opening a thread at WP:DRN. Erpert blah, blah, blah... 03:13, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
- Huh. I figured ElKevbo's contribution would qualify as minor. Anyway @ScrapIronIV: as the article stands today, I don't see any strong evidence of COI, but I'm open to the idea that biased content exists and I'm somehow missing it. I'd ask again what about the article warrants a COI tag, but we hit a wall with that question, so I'm not sure how we'd compromise. Any ideas? WP:DRN? Brycehughes (talk) 04:01, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
- We had been working on it, section by section, albeit rather slowly. My intent had been to continue; but it really no longer seems important. Someone removed the tag the other day, and I have very little time right now. I'll leave it be, unless there are additional edits by the known IP addresses or registered editors with a known conflict. Scr★pIronIV 14:05, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

Edit warring to add academic affiliations to the infobox
An unregistered editor has begun an edit war to add three organizations to the "Academic affiliations" parameter of this article's infobox: AACSB, APLU, APTA. Edit warring by itself isn't helpful but it's particularly unproductive when an editor begins one despite there being multiple discussions on this precise topic. As already stated in those discussions, (a) membership in organizations like APLU doesn't tell readers anything informative as the membership standards are quite open and (b) accreditors aren't included in this parameter because large institutions can have a few dozen accreditors which isn't appropriate or helpful in the infobox. (There is a separate discussion explicitly focused on adding an "Accreditation" parameter to the infobox but that would be focused on institutional accreditors, not programmatic accreditors such as these two.)
