Declining suffix???

[edit]

As I wrote on the talk page at Bulgarians when you decline a noun in some case you get another NOUN not an ADJECTIVE, and words like Georgiev are ADJECTIVES (see "Граматика за всички" page 63) because they change to agree with the nouns (like Stoyan - a masculine noun or Mariya - a feminine noun) they modify in gender, number and definiteness - Georgiev, Georgieviat, Georgieva, Georgievata, Georgievo, Georgievoto, Georgievi, Georgievite. Name controversy

  • [...] a patronymic, which is second (and is usually omitted when referring to the person) [...]

So, why are there people (e.g. Georgi Asparuhov and Yordan Lechkov) that seems to be known by their Patronimic? Have they two surnames and no patronymic? --necronudist (talk) 14:50, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    • Nope, it still seems to be the patronymic ("double family names" in Bulgarian are usually written with a hyphen, e.g. Lechkov-Yankov), just that they preferred to use it over their family name and got well known with it. Actually, I didn't even know that Lechkov and Asparuhov were not those footballers' family names until now, but rather patronymics. Those are rare cases for sure.
