Weight classes
[edit]@Raymarcbadz I don't understand way of the weight classes. You wrote: Mens Welterweight (71kg) and Middleweight (80kg). But if you compare this with the AIBA weight classes 71kg is Light middleweight and 80kg is Light heavyweight. Do you have an other source? Also "Womens Flyweight (50kg)" the AIBA says that 50 kg is "Light flyweight". TWsk (talk) 11:52, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
The redirect Boxing at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Men's lightweight has been listed at redirects for discussion to determine whether its use and function meets the redirect guidelines. Readers of this page are welcome to comment on this redirect at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2023 October 26 § Boxing at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Men's lightweight until a consensus is reached. Weight categories - urgent
[edit]The fight start in a week, and we urgently need to sort out the names of the weight categories and create the corresponding articles. I started yesterday by creating Boxing at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Men's flyweight and redirected Boxing at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Men's 51 kg there, and then I did the same for men's 57 kg, but for 63.5 kg we have a problem because the redirect was deleted as a result of the MfD listed in the topic above (and later recreated, apparently by a user who did not know about the MfD). Basically, if I am reading the MfD correctly, we need to make a choice: (i) using names like Boxing at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Men's flyweight as the basis ones - this was done in all of the previous Olympics, and they are also easy to connect via templates, but apparently these name have zero official standing at the 2024 Olympics, and the choice of the names will be somewhat arbitrary; or (ii) use Boxing at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Men's 51 kg which are precise and official but do not connect well to other Olympics. The pages need to be up this week, so that the decision is urgent. Ymblanter (talk) 08:35, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
- I would use the weightname instead of the kg for reasons presented. Same has been done in the World Championships (example) aswell if this counts for anything. Kante4 (talk) 11:49, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
- I think the KG numbers need to be used as there is no where I can find which uses the names of the classes. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 14:49, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
- To be honest, i can also live with the kg listed. Draw is on Thursday, so an agreement is needed. Kante4 (talk) 07:57, 22 July 2024 (UTC)

- It would be wise, IMO, to use the names as used officially by the particular Games. What do they call the event in programmes and listings - that is in theory what people will be looking for and our articles will match with primary sources for anyone potentially unsure which category we're referring to. In the same way, the alternative name should probably be mentioned in the lead. Kingsif (talk) 20:44, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- That would be kg. We should create the articles as the draw is tomorrow. At the worst, they can be moved after discussion. Kante4 (talk) 21:51, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- I agree on the urgency and the potential for a more detailed and better-attended discussion after the fact. At that point, we may also have stats for how many hits the redirect gets. This discussion seems to have happened because there's no "wrong" answer, so I would vouch for kg, recommend they be created there, without prejudice against moving the articles even within the week. Kingsif (talk) 00:15, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- Agreed. If no one does it earlier or has an other opinion i will create/move the article tomorrow morning. Kante4 (talk) 00:27, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- Ok, let us do it like this. If there is consensus for the categories later, we can always move them. Ymblanter (talk) 07:07, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- I moved and cleaned up the three which I created myself. Other 10 still need to be created. I will try to do this, but I am busy in real life, so that I might not have enough time. Ymblanter (talk) 07:36, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks and i can create the other ones. Kante4 (talk) 07:56, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
