Question
[edit]What is this "parallel letterwise recognition" model? Is there an article on it? 71.247.145.175 17:45, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Pronunciation
[edit]The pronunciation "bowma" is not very helpful. Consider "bow" as in "bowtie" and "bow" as in "bow of a ship". -- Coneslayer 21:50, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know which it is, but I can give the IPA for both so that someone who does can copy paste it in. Bow as in bowtie would be [ˈboʊmə] and bow as in the bow of a ship would be [ˈbaʊmə]. - Zeibura (Talk) 20:53, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Bouma Use in Education
[edit]It should be noted that Bouma word shapes are used with considerable success in elementary education. I the first three years of learning to read and write, students who are encouraged to use word boumas to memories spelling shows a greater word recognition that students who do not use this technique.
With word bouma as an aid students:
- recognized words faster
- saw mistakes quicker
- recalled the words better after a period of time
- could apply letter blends better to similar words, e.g. night, light, might
- had improved skills in encoding (spelling) and decoding (reading) unfamiliar words
With the advantage of educational games on devices like tablets and pads, great success have been reached with spelling games utilizing boumas:See word bouma in action here:

- Do you have a reference backing up the specifics you cite above for the efficacy of Boumas? What was the control condition? Thomas Phinney (talk) 01:39, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
