Construction - Unclear?

[edit]

I had to read the part about how the clay shell if sormed several times before I realised that the borad is used to shape the inside of the shell and also to work out that any inscription is inscribed also on the inside and (must be) mirrored about a vertical.

This is not an area I particularly know anything about so I don't want to cause any trouble but I think this could be clarified. FerdinandFrog (talk) 15:10, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As it happens, you aren't the first person to mention that - I thought I'd rewritten that bit to be somewhat clearer, but it evidently needs more work (without a diagram, it's surprising hard to describe). I'll have another look and see if I can do a better job of it. Thanks for the suggestion. Yunshui  07:00, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In literature

[edit]

A section about the importance of bonshō in literature, particularly the bell in Dōjōji (Noh play), might be a useful enhancement. Dgorsline (talk) 01:46, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely worth a mention. I've added a couple of lines about Dōjōji (Noh play) in the Notable examples section. Yunshui  09:06, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dalek

[edit]

That bell in the topmost image looks kind of like a Dalek. Did the creators of Doctor Who ever disclose what their inspiration for the design of the Daleks were? It'd be quite interesting if they turned out to have been based on bonshō. FiredanceThroughTheNight (talk) 15:43, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Seems unlikely. Ray Cusick doesn't appear to have acknowledged bell design as an influence anywhere that I can see (and his original drawings look much less bonsho-like). Yunshui  09:12, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

GA/FA?

[edit]

I'm curious: the bannershell above reports that this page is a GA for all projects, but it has a current status of featured article. Am I missing something here? Me, Myself & I (talk) 05:51, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I guess it didn't get updated. I've done that now. Curly Turkey 🍁 ¡gobble! 08:36, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Non-Japanese equivalent articles?

[edit]

I can't seem to find if there are articles on non-Japanese Buddhist bells. The topics are pretty interrelated, as with much of Asian Buddhism, but the scope of this article is pretty set and narrow. 104.232.119.107 (talk) 04:20, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
