Evolution of Bloomfield Road
[edit]A brief timeline of Bloomfield Road's evolution, with years added where available:
- Ground opened with only a West Stand (c. 300 seats)

- North-West Stand built (previously the North Stand; was pulled down in 1985)
- East Paddock covered
- East Paddock extended (1954; increased ground capacity to 38,000)
- Floodlights erected (1957)
- Additional seating in West Stand
- New seating installed in the late 1960s, reducing the capacity to 30,000
- Seats added to East Paddock, but they were removed after criticism by the fans
- Roof added to North Stand
- Roof removed North Stand (1981) and some seating removed from the East Paddock
- North Stand had its western half closed, with the eastern half for use only by visiting support)

Capacity and stand capacities etc
[edit]I have amended the current stadium capacity to the correct official figure of 9,788. This has been taken from the documents attached to the planning application for the East Stand extension of 972 seats which would the increase the stadium capacity to 10,760. This is from the planning application documentation which is viewable to all. As I wasn't sure about copyright and all that I have not cited this as a source though. Maybe if someone who knows more than me (which wouldn't be difficult really as I know very little about copyright law) could say whether or not it can be used as a source. But in the meantime the official figues are there to view on the "Design and Access Statement" document. ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 04:25, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
- Regarding TangerineTom's update of Blackpool's averages from Soccer-Stats, I'm seeing their average in terms of percentage of ground capacity as 89%, which puts them top of the division, not second. - Dudesleeper / Talk 14:56, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, I see Soccer-Stats haven't updated Bloomfield's capacity, that's why. - Dudesleeper / Talk 14:59, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- It really is anyones guess, the current capacity, it has changed a few times this season. The East apparently has a reduced capacity of 1,700 following H&S issues, down from 1,965. But a decision on the planning application to extend it to 2,937 is due soon - 27th March is the target date for a decision if I recall correctly. Then for home fans - the West has about another 100 seats now (for the last 3 home games, since Barnsley). The PA guy, his console and helpers have been moved from the balcony where they were located, in front of the Directors Box, to a small area in the SW Corner. The media now sit on the balcony, meaning apparently about another 100 seats for home fans. The capacity right now is probably about 9,650-700ish. If/when the planning application goes through that will increase to about 10,600-700. For the PNE game there must have been around 50 fans stood watching the game on Bloomfield Road, such fun hey. Oh and the Travelodge is supposedly due to open on 2nd May with lovely views over the pitch! ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 16:42, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
The new stand is now open, but the capacity has not been amended. What is the capacity with the stand open? I read it held around 3,600, so the new capacity must be somewhere in the region of 13,600. Is it not better to update this with a rough figure even while awaiting capacity confirmation from the club? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.205.102.229 (talk) 10:13, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
I do not think the latest capacity estimates are correct. The new temporary stand has been confirmed as 5,070 seats. However, I do not think that the calculations on the page take into account that this replaces a smaller stand, which had somewhere between 1,000 and 2,000 seats. The club say the capacity with the new stand will be over 16,000, but the 17,500 figure seems to involve double counting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.205.102.229 (talk) 12:33, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
Images
[edit]There are 23 non-free images in the article. This is clearly excessive, especially as many of them are in a gallery and therefore purely decorative. In fact, there are only 26 articles in the whole of enwiki with more non-free images than this. I would suggest that regular editors of the article need to look at which images are necessary and which aren't (for example, three images of the changing room and tunnel area is clearly not necessary). Black Kite 18:22, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- As I mentioned in my edit summary at the end of August, I removed eight images after the above notice. Removing any of those that remain will be detrimental to the article, since the stadium has been completely rebuilt since those images were taken. - Dudesleeper / Talk 22:52, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- The images are replaceable. There are probably thousands of images of the stadium before it was rebuilt. It will probably be a lot of work, but it should be possible to get enough released under free licenses. The article also violates WP:NFCC#3. Rettetast (talk) 09:47, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
