{{edit semi-protected}} < Jerry Seinfeld's character Barry B first coin the phrase Black and Yellow in Bee Movie released in 2007. He repeated the saying often during the movie, a motto for the pollen bees.

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. You'll need to provide a reliable source showing that this is where Wiz Khalifa got the phrase from. Currently, our source specifically indicates he linked it to the city of Pittsburgh. Qwyrxian (talk) 04:06, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

When have kid movies ever influenced rap lyrics? AvalancheMusic (talk) 23:54, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request for clarification.

[edit]

{{edit semi-protected}} I was under the impression this song was about his car? His lyrics talks about black stripes and yellow paint and various other references to parts of a vehicle. [1] I don't see anything about a specific city or location. 75.128.3.218 (talk) 20:35, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: Please look at the citation provided. Note that Wikipedia editors cannot interpret the lyrics of songs to determine what they mean--when we provide interpretation, it must come from reliable secondary sources, not from the lyrics themselves. Qwyrxian (talk) 04:06, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wiz has made requests that the song be the official anthem for the Steelers. He even performed it at one of their games. I tend to think the song was written and the official meaning was changed to be about Pittsburgh, which was conveyed in the music video. This is all cited in the first paragraph I believe. "Purp & Yellow"

[edit]

Also please be sure to include the alternate version of the remix performed by Omar Cruz. His version is NBA related, but the song is titled "Shannon Brown (Purp & Yellow)." See link here. Is Cruz's version a prelude to the official release of "Purp & Yellow" by Snoop Dogg & The Game? ElMeroEse (talk) 04:05, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is this remix really noteable?

[edit]

AvalancheMusic keeps insisting on adding a remix by some artist named "Marquee T" with no reliable sources to back up noteablity and continues to edit war over it as here What does anyone else think? STATic message me! 06:27, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As I said, TCU and the Packers are the only relevant teams on the list. What did Northwestern or the Atlanta Falcons accomplish? Even the Yankees did not win it all and the Packers did not win all their games either. This song is either more relevant and should be included, or a bunch of other ones need to be removed. The artist is irrelevant. Chet Haze is not notable, he just happens to be Tom Hanks son. But the source mentions the TCU song as being well done, mainly because the lyrics are not about drugs and actually focus on the school and the team.AvalancheMusic (talk) 14:42, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So what if the team is noteable? Him making the song is not. This is border line promotion and the Chey Haze remix stays because he was covered in reliable sources. STATic message me! 02:35, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah and the song is covered in the same source as Chet Haze. If Chet Haze's song is only noteable because he made it, then a song can also be noteable even if the artists is not. Your logic works both ways. Northwestern went 7-6 and lost their last 3 games. TCU won the Rose Bowl as well as their last 13 games and 26 of their last 27. TCU and Green Bay are the only noteable teams that won a trophy. Even the Steelers, who the original was made for, did not win it all.AvalancheMusic (talk) 02:50, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the team's notability makes the remake more notable; this article is about a song. Dan56 (talk) 04:44, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So then why is the Chet Haze remix notable? No one has addressed this. It has the same source as the TCU song. It also does not even talk about the team it claims to represent. Just a bunch of drug references. I will be removing all but Lil Wayne until someone proves how these songs are any more notable.AvalancheMusic (talk) 22:36, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Remove them then, you'll get blocked. All the remixes there are noteable as they were made by noteable artists. The Chet Haze remix is noteable as it was covered by MTV and Billboard. STATic message me! 06:24, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

But you have basically admitted that was only because he is Tom Hanks' son. Clearly, the song is not notable and is just a copy of every other rap song that discusses drugs for several minutes.AvalancheMusic (talk) 03:06, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The team makes the song more notable than the artist. Are you trying to suggest that if Lil Wayne made a song about the Buffalo Bills it would be notable? No. He made one about the Packers right before the Super Bowl and it got airtime all over the country.AvalancheMusic (talk) 16:08, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Do you not understand that the team doesn't matter. Its only about if the artist is noteable and it was covered in reliable sources
Crooked I and Donnis are definitely not "notable" artists. I listen to rap music all day and have never heard of these two clowns.AvalancheMusic (talk) 21:07, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
They are noteable as they have a standing article. It doesn't madder if you have personally heard of them. STATic message me! 21:33, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The TCU song has 2 standing articles.AvalancheMusic (talk) 04:57, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

But the artist doesn't. STATic message me! 05:01, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Superbowl and Cultural Influence

[edit]

I was wondering if any of you thought it would be important to add notes about the substantial number of football related remixes this inspired, or just have a section about the connections the song has to football. Since the song was used so widely as a fight song during the 2010-11 season for the Steelers, i think that might be worth mentioning. 74.107.105.159 (talk) 20:47, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Purp & Yellow" backing track

[edit]

As you can clearly see and hear in the music video, "Purp & Yellow" has a backing track that uses a rock band instead of the original's synthesizers (or whatever it was). That information has been removed twice now, first for being not notable and then for being not true. It's both true and notable, is it not? Korny O'Near (talk) 17:16, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The original version did not feature the backing rock. Only the remix of that remix did. STATic message me! 05:16, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. Well, isn't the remix of the remix the more notable version, since there was a video produced of it? Korny O'Near (talk) 15:16, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I tried adding the info again now, hopefully correctly this time. Korny O'Near (talk) 16:53, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Röyksopp credit?

[edit]

I only just discovered this song (after the Josh Vietti cover came up on Pandora) and I recognized the tune. Searching led me to Wiz Khalifa. But I knew that wasn't the song I'd heard before. Wracking my brain, I finally remembered Röyksopp. Their song, "Röyksopp Forever" was released in early 2009, around 18 months before "Black and Yellow." The melody line in this song is clearly the same as one of the melody lines in "Röyskopp Forever" (introduced about half way through the song). Is there any source commenting on this? I don't see anywhere that Röyksopp appears to be credited as a sample or whatever. Here's the official Röyksopp youtube, if you're not familiar with the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rSpas1OZ48 (Check out 2:40 onward)El piel (talk) 18:37, 15 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There are lots of these "song X is a total ripoff of song Y" theories, and some of them are clearly accurate, but unless you can find a notable source making the same claim (like a music critic or artist), it can't be included here. Korny O'Near (talk) 15:29, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Right, I get that. That is why I was asking if anyone else is aware of a source. I have been unable to find one. But the similarities are too uncanny for me to not raise the question. Thanks El piel (talk) 15:30, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, sorry, I didn't fully read your original comment. Korny O'Near (talk) 15:20, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Request

[edit]

Could somebody please change the first two sentences of the second paragraph? The first says "The song is and his home town and the Pittsburgh Steelers with black stripes.", which honestly isn't even a sentence, and the second seems to refer back to a car that was not aforementioned. Thank you to whoever has the time to correct this! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8801:2A00:DF70:5D0D:5F0A:CFBD:519A (talk) 22:14, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
