Date of death

[edit]

But

Who knows for sure? -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 19:16, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Just for now at least, I'll change our date to 30 March, given the apparent preponderance of sources favouring that date. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 22:45, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Some more, which seem to be tending towards 31 March:
I suspect it will end up having been after midnight on Monday night, so technically Tuesday, but happy to leave it until a firm date is published in an obit or classified ad. And of course the 31 March dates could be instances of citogenesis! --Canley (talk) 02:27, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Obituary in The Australian specifically says "Obituary: Betty Churcher. Gallery director. Born Brisbane, January 11, 1931. Died Canberra, March 31, age 84." --Canley (talk) 04:33, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The original obituary in The Australian does say "Monday night", but after midnight could still be notionally Monday night while technically being Tuesday 31st. The more recent obit (see link above, use Google News to bypass the paywall) specifically says "died March 31". There are two other references I've mentioned above which imply a Tuesday date as well. --Canley (talk) 05:02, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've just checked the print version of The Australian, it says "died March 31". --Canley (talk) 05:06, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Are you in New York? When I look at that ABC News link (from the east coast of Australia) it says it was posted on Tuesday 12:02 PM. If you are in the US maybe that appears as a local time like 9:02 PM Monday? --Canley (talk) 05:17, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Why are people are still "correcting" the date? She died on 31 March: Canberra Times death notice, ANU tribute, The Australian obituary, ABC Classic FM, Art Gallery of Western Australia. --Canley (talk) 11:11, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Preferentially?

[edit]

Did the Archibald Prize conditions of entry really say 'preferentially' instead of 'preferably'? God help the English language in this semantically sloppy age. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:44B8:3102:BB00:2D56:6B41:AA0F:E719 (talk) 02:20, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
